The End Of Poverty!

it's the capitalism/economics system that did it. Not focused on us Americans, it's the people who f*cked this country over that has aided in dying 3rd world

Petey, Do you think that poverty can be abolished?

FYI; this article makes some interesting points...
A major reason for the failure of reform is that the market-based policies that underpinned the African experiments--the so-called Washington consensus--had a fatal flaw: They assumed that economic reforms can create efficient markets without simultaneous reform of the political institutions. Without a limit on government and a guarantee of property rights and individual liberty, "efficient markets" cannot exist. Economists have made an impressive start on the types of economic institutions needed to support efficient markets, but have not made equal strides in devising political institutions that will accomplish that objective. It took a Sekou Toure, or a Hastings Banda, five minutes of despotism to undo the finest economic theory.
Here is another good article to read concerning the economy of South Africa, specifically...

Giving aid is about the most cruel thing we could be doing.

really how is it our fault that their governments steal food and money from the poor. the world hates us for trying to fix problems, then bitches when we don't do enough

I'm not saying we can abolish poverty. Just saying WATCH THIS MOVIE N**GER!

The movie isn't the end of the discussion.
It's a weak argument that has been presented, but if you have any understanding of facts and information OUTSIDE of the movie, your horribly ignorant economic pronouncements require response.

Africa is a treasure house of minerals and resourses yet the indigenous populations are not capable of utilizing them on their own.
Where there's western nowhow and engineering life is good but otherwise things haven't changed much for the better in 6000 years.
At least the Western world is trying to help instead of just waiting for people to die out from wars, AIDS and poverty so they can take over the land and utilize the resourses.

Maybe Pete should read my sig.

Already have read it. And I agree on it. Don't see why you guys think that by me posting a movie trailing that all my beliefs lie within what information it gives out. Hell my dad has no job cause he won't get off his lazy @ss and go in for interviews, plus he won't settle for less than he was originally making. He's a douchebag of a father and I'll laugh when he runs out of money and ends up in a slum

Maybe if the stupid liberals would allow Africa to use DDT and then get rid of third world dictators, Africa would become civilized.

A bug killer that was harmless, but a sensationalist author wrote a book and the environmentalist wackos got it banned. So Africa continues to be a malaria swamp to this day.

Silent Spring (1962)

launched the environmental movement

No toxin is harmless but the benifits of DDT far outweighed it's shortcomings.

Evidently it killed some birds hence the title.

The problem is there is nothing close to the effectiveness of DDT for it's intended purpose.

Africa is, in many ways, the victim of the idealistic "liberalism" and generosity that Westerners impart upon it.

You should read that first article I linked to. The problem is their severely corrupt "governments". There is no stability so there can be no growing economy.

I read both articles but nowhere does it mention tribalism or literacy as part of the reasons for the current status quo.

Didn't actually kill birds. It thinned egg shells. If they didn't spray too much, it had no ill effects.

Because those things will change in a growing market (just like in other free market nations). The question is what is preventing any type of healthy economy from developing and that is the lack of stability and trust brought about by the corrupt "governments" in those countries...
