So the wife wants a new car, and we got about $2000 coming in tax returns. I was thinking something from the mid-late 90's to early 00. I realize that it will have a $hit ton of miles. What are some cars that can handle the higher miles.

Imho, stick with the Corolla(already a proven vehicle) unless it's tran's or engine's about to blow.. No sense upgrading just to be stuck with high miles again (assuming the Corolla does).

Just wait till you can afford a proper replacement..02

Get her a crown vic if she likes big comfy cars.

How about a blazer or something with the 4.3? I think the Focus is still a competitor but some of them go out randomly.

Focus
Escort
Mazda
Nissan
Toyota
Honda
As long as you know how to buy a used car she has tons of choices in the FWD 4 cylinder category.

+1 on the Focus. More power, more fun, more room, and more options then Corolla and Civic. Easily very reliable to 200K+ miles and CHEAP to fix. Also the 2nd and 3rd gen Escorts are great cars too.

02 03 lancers can be had for 2gs. Gotta change the timing belt every 60k is the only chitty maintenance. I just scooped an 03 for 350 bucks with 180,xxx miles.

Just my .02 but I'd avoid any high mile car that appeals to high school students or was blatantly owned by a young "ricer" as a vast majority of the time that thing will have had the living :q:q:q:q beaten out of it.
