I'd like to start a thread for the absolute best radar detector available. The Valentine One. www.valentine1.com

The only radar detector on the market with directional arrows and a bogey counter so you not only know how many radars are there, but where the signal is coming from. (Created by a founder of Escort.)

I'd love to hear anything about them....How they've helped you, what features you like best, where and how you mounted them, why it's better than any other radar detector, or even some misgivings you have.

This is personally where I put mine but I plan on mounting it above my rear view mirror next to my EZ Pass and running an RJ 11 wire down to a concealed display somewhere in my instrument cluster.

Sorry Im not tring to Hijack this thread but I would like to add this if you all dont mind. I have been looking @ these for a little while. So could people who own them also tell where they got them and the amount they paid

You can find them all over ebay or at www.valentine1.com they aren't sold in stores, just online. If you get it on ebay make sure you get version 1.8 which is the latest software upgrade or else you can get an older version and send it in to Valentine and get the upgrade done for I beleive around $150.

But for some odd reason they fail to mention that the V1 has the ability to tell what direction the signal is coming from (being the only radar with this capability since Valentine Research has the patents on this) and the bogey counter. I have picked up signals well over 2 miles away. I have seen many reviews go either way. It doesn't cross your mind at all that these are biased reviews...."paid advertisers" just like most car magazines are themselves with the exception of a few.

Personally I don't need to know 2 or 3 miles in advance....A half a mile to a mile is fine for me which is what any off the shelf radar can do.

I'm sorry but once you use the V1 and the directional arrows...you won't be able to live without them.

I've owned two cobras and a whistler and this is by far one of the best purchases I have made, hands down....ever.

I use to passport 8500 escort x50 works just as good and it gives less false alerts. :D :D

Does it tell you what direction the signal is coming from? Or how many signals?

And I rarely get false alerts anymore if i turn on the Logic Modes.

sorry but for the extra $100 i think its worth it to not just know there is a cop, but where they are, and how many.

how about you read this...actual reviews from users. not unbiased paid advertisers who are only flaunting equipment they sell since only valentine1.com carries valentine ones. Radarbusters of course is going to hype their own products they sell and radartest.com is affiliated with buyradardetectors.com again hyping up their own products they sell

I put mine in the upper left hand corner.
It's invisible to cops even if you do get pulled over and they stick their head in your car.
Works great front and back.
Saved me many times.
Also have a laser jammer with emitters on both sides of my front license plate.
Would feel naked driving without both.

nice yeah did you hook up to an on/off wire with the car or is it in the cigarette lighter? i want to mount mine high but get the remote display so i dont have to look up high each time. what laser jammers do you use?

I use the Blinder M20

http://www.radarbusters.com/laser-jammers/laser-jammers/products.cfm?action=view&key=BLI003

Have one in the LS and one in my 97 Supercharged Camaro convertible.
It picks up the laser right away with a sharp tone and a light in my dash that goes from green to red.
I put the switch next to the pedal height adjuster in the woodgrain on the left side of the steering wheel.
I've taken as long as 3 seconds to respond and slow down before turning the jammer off so the cop can clock me at a legal speed as recommended by Blinder.
I like my Valentine mounted where it is.
I only have to slightly look up to check the arrows, less than one would have to look down at a remote display.

i actually like to read http://www.radarbusters.com/ because of their reviews, with tests. so you dont just get someone saying "yeah dude! this one rocks for xyz reason" you get the actual test with a radar gun and laser detector detectors. just my opinion and 2 cents, take it for what you will...

I understand. I read them too because they do have useful information. But I do notice they fail to point out useful information about products they don't sell. They go on to say how the new Bel Sti Driver has a metal case but not that the V1 has had one since it came out. And the fact that everyones arguement was that they couldn't justify spending $400 for directional arrows and bogey counter but the new Sti Driver is $450 I beleive??? and lacks both of those extremely important features.

I hooked the Valentine and the M20 to a switched positive off my rain sensitive wiper sensor which is located behind the rearview mirror.
I hated the rain sensitive wipers and disabled them by pulling the connector off the sensor at which point the wipers reverted to normal intermittent operation like any other car.
You can also tap into the wire for the compass and mirror dimmer circiut.

and 04SCTLS, that is a great install job on the blinder. Is that worth the $$$? And what about the V1...are you satisfied?

actually i wanted to check out http://www.radarbusters.com/ again since i didnt check them out for a while and it has changed dramatically! it doesnt list all the tests that it used to so i believe i am wrong it does not show many tests any more and if it does you have to search pretty well for them:confused: very dumb but what can i do? lol man that sucks

It's worth the 750.00 plus shipping it cost me for the Valentine and 350.00 for the M20. 1500.00 since I have the same in my Camaro.
In New York if you get 3 speeding tickets in 18 months they'll suspend your license for 6 months and if you get to 6 points which is easy as a 10 to 19 mph over ticket is 4 points they'll hit you with a 400.00 surcharge.
I came close to losing my license (11 points in NY) having one 16 over ticket (4 points, 130.00) 2 points and another 130.00 for cutting through a gas station 100 times (they were waiting for me) then getting an 82 in a 55 ticket reduced to 3 points, driving school, and 450.00 in fines. Luckily my insurance didn't check my record until the last speeding ticket was 36 months old at which time they dropped me. I was able to reinsure with another carrier with only a 100.00 surcharge for 6 months.
This was a few years ago before NY added their 400.00 surcharge.
The cops have their devices so I have mine to protect myself since I speed all the time.
If you can afford an LS and like to speed 750.00 is well spent and cheap compared to the hassle and grief of tickets and court and driving school and potential insurance surcharges.

oh sorry I actually paid 400.00 plus shipping for the valentine.

Does it tell you what direction the signal is coming from? Or how many signals?

And I rarely get false alerts anymore if i turn on the Logic Modes.

dude no matter what the arrows say the point is you need to slow the F**k DOWN, and yeah it does tell me the # of signals.

ok ill give you a situation. your going down the road and pick up a radar...so you slow down. then after you pass the cop you speed back up a little but there is another cop up ahead hiding in the first ones radar picking up people after they speed back up. can your radar point behind to the one you just passed and up ahead to the one your going to pass

Why would you speed up to above the posted speed limit if you just passed a cop?

Any of the top three (Bel, Escort or Valentine) would be a good choice depending on your personal preferences.

My Bel Pro RX65 has Safety Signals alert, Valentine does not, and that is important to me.

My Bel has digital voice so I don’t have to take my eyes off the road and look at the detector to figure out what is going on. Valentine does not. Important to me.

You are just using self serving statements to justify your personal choice.

+1

the fact is - if the officer knows what they are doing and are being targeted about thier attempts - all any detector does is lets you know you have been nailed.
