Ok so I am a little pissed as to why this Lincoln seems to have so many problems. Today I was comming off of a two laned highway slowing down from 65, just braking normally...the whole right side gets covered in white smoke and I could smell the burning. So I pull off and the rear right rotor is literally smoking. So I let it cool off, and I make sure I have no brakes on at all. So I take off again making sure all the brakes are cool. I drive 3 miles to my house and I get out, smell the burning, feel the rim to see how hot it is and it was so hot I burned myself by tapping it. Also just yesterday the windows got messed up, the Advance Track light keeps comming on, and the funny thing is...I took it to the dealer to get new brakes a week ago. I guess the dealerships have no effin idea on how to work on a car. Yea so thats been my week so far, does anyone know what in the hell could have caused this?

Sorry for it being so long, I had to make sure yall understood why I was angry.

sounds like one of your calipers is frozen up? does the car pull to the right? also could be headgasket (white smoke) although that wouldn't explain the red-hot wheel.

No it doesnt pull at all, but I could hear the brakes as I let off when I was slowing down. It sounded like they didnt retract all the way.

Two big possibilities come to mind. The first is a kinked or pinched brake line. That seems unlikely, as you should have noticed something before.

The more likely problem is corroded caliper slide pins. This will eventually cause the caliper to stick, which will keep pressure on pads, which will cause them to drag on the rotors. This is not just a failing of the LS; this happens to all sorts of cars.

It's possible that the mechanic who worked on your brakes popped one of the slide pin boots off its mount by mistake (it's absurdly easy), which would allow water and gunk to get on the pin. It's also possible that one (or more) of them are torn.

I think the pins are fairly easy to replace; you'll just need a 12mm socket and box-end wrench (preferably the 6-sided variety). The boots just pop off of and back onto their mounts. The pins shoud just slide out after you remove the caliper from its bracket.

I've changed my brake pads, but I've not had to replace the pins on my LS (or on my SHO, which shared this type of caliper slide pin design). I got to be pretty damn good at replacing the slide pins on my T-Bird SC, though...

He said the advanced trac light is coming on too....maybe the dealership messed something up when doing the brake job...If its locking up you wheel its gotta be something new...I would take it back you should have them look over there handy work ....

well, a seized caliper is a common occurence for any car, and it doesn't necessarily mean the shop who did the brake work did anything wrong. Just changing the brakes wouldn't tell you that a caliper may go bad soon. So don't be so quick to blame the shop. I'm not saying they are definitely innocent, but its very likely a separate and unpreventable problem.

And, yes, this would cause the advancetrak light to come on because it is obviously sensing one wheel not spinning as fast as the others due to the locked up brake. The smoke you saw was most likely the tire being dragged along the pavement.

I wouldn't drive the car until you get it fixed. If you can't get the caliper to unseize, then I would have it towed. Dragging a tire is going to cost you a tire and dragging brakes could cost you a rotor.

Sounds like whoever did your brake job screwed it up for you. Probably didn't get the piston retracted all the way.

you don't need to retract the piston all the way. just far enough to get the caliper back on.

i really need to stop reading threads about peoples problems, everytime i read about a problem i have not yet encountered it happens shortly thereafter, stop posting this stuff!:shifty:
