I went to Mac Haik Ford in Georgetown this morning to get my AC checked out. I’ve been having a problem with it all of a sudden running hot. Lately I haven’t been running into the problem but it comes when I least expect it. So I had the guys at Mac Haik take a look at it for me seeing if there is some kind of underlining problem with the entire cooling system, they came back with nothing. The guy basically said that the problem would have to be going on right now for him to diagnose it. I brought up some things I think it might be, bad DCCV, AC condenser, etc. He asked me where did I here to check those things. I told him I go on a LS forums from time to time. He looked at me and said, oh, we have a name for guys like you!
He waved the $59.99 AC check fee though, which was cool but what did he mean by that comment? “We have a name for guys like you”! Does he mean like, we are informed? We help one and other? We're smart asses? What???

What do you guys think he meant?

prolly "people that think they are mechanics" ahha

"educated so we won't be ripped off"

I don't remember how many times Lincoln Dealer fed me BS that something is normal or "my concern" was not replicated

I'm not a mechanic, but I've been around enough annoying morons to have an idea.. My guess is that they deal with a lot of customers who don't know anything about cars, read something on a forum about a part that may or may not actually be relevant to the problem, then say "I already diagnosed it for you, so don't expect me to pay for diagnostic fees. Just replace the part!" And then, if replacing that part doesn't solve the problem because of the customer's improper diagnosis, the mechanic gets all the blame.

How would you feel if some random person walked into your office and acted like he knew more about your job than you do because he read something on an Internet forum?

I'm not suggesting that you're one of "those guys", but I could understand why the mechanic might not have the most favorable reaction.

If I have a problem and I read somewhere that it's typically caused by a certain part, there's a relevant TSB, or something along those lines, I'll mention it to the mechanic as something for him to consider. Otherwise I just let him do his thing and work on the car. That's why I'm paying him instead of doing it myself!

Good points segxr7.

I guess mechanic works for himself unlike Lincoln dealers I've dealt with that gonna have customers anyway cuz of warranty.

Hey I just what to let you know that I have been having the same problem with 05' LS and it is going to be the heater control valve. This part happens to be on national backorder until July 14th. I got a call this morning that the dealer has located a valve for me and will do the work under my ESP warranty. So i will taking my car in on Friday for that. So if it is the HCV than goodluck if your dealer dosen't have one in stock for the repair.

I've gotten some mixed reactions to being a member of an online Forum.
One guy I've gotten to know pretty well since buying the LS thinks it's great, because I don't ask him as many questions

On the other hand I was talking to a Tire Rack rep recently and he noted that the size wheels I ordered weren't factory size and wondered why I picked the size I did.:shifty: When I told him (politely of course), the response was a Bill Lumberg-esque: "oh.....okay then make sure not to drive on them JUST in case they don't fit, m'kay?" I almost laughed. :D

Hey Lucky LS, go back and ask him what the name he alluded to was. I'm curious, but I have the feeling it ends in "holes"

Yea, I used to do tech support and most people who claimed to "know what the problem was," didn't. It's all is based off of how you display your understanding of an issue and possible solutions rather than tell them how to do their job.

Granted, some of them aren't as savvy as others....but for the most part they have the proper job title for a reason.

As for the DCCV, mine is on its way out and I was able to pick it up for about $145 out of my hometown of Victoria, TX from the motorcraft supplier for the auto parts stores down there.

BTW, nice to see another Austin area LS owner.

I’m sure it’s a bad word whatever it is. The funny part about it was that I wasn’t even telling the guy like I was a mechanic and I just wanted a second opinion them. I was just like, “I hear of thing that it might be?” I mean common, AC condenser is an obvious one…
I think the guy had probably had some problems with another customer who thought he know everything because he was part of a forum or car group.
