So I've had it with my car. It's not that it's really done anything new wrong, I'm just tired of how much time and money these cars demand. So It's time to let it go I think. I still haven't decided if I'm going to part out the new stuff I've put into it and swap that stuff with peoples old stuff then sell it, or just sell it how it is.

I've got so much money dumped into it I figured I'd be able to recover some of my losses by selling these new parts.

I've got nearly $9000 into the car ($3500ish of that was the purchase price after ttt) so I'm hoping to basically get back what I paid for the car itself and take the loss on the rest of the money. So I'll be taking a $5500 loss.

Any advice on what to do? Which way would you guys go?

To answer your question, I'm wondering what is actually wrong with it right now?

I forget with all the different threads, last I remember there was an intake manifold leak that you fixed?

no it isnt fixed, at least i dont think it is, i was gonna do it last weekend, but derek never called me, and he wanted me to fix it this weekend but i already had other plans.

so the intake leak is the only thing wrong? Just fix that, it's not a big deal.

Sure, you may have another problem down the road, but maybe you won't. It won't cost much to fix the intake and then you can drive it for a while and get use of some of the money you have in it.

If you recall, I suggested you sell it before when you had a bazillion problems and not as much money into it. At this point you are sunk so you might as well get as many miles as you can.

Derek, you've passed the point of no return when you tried to take the valve covers off. These cars don't demand a lot of maintenance once every thing is replaced, they just purr. You know that. It almost like you're two miles from completing a marathon and stopping. I would keep it.

My thing is what if I fix the gaskets and the problems are still there? It's still doing that massive power loss thing where I'm not kidding when i say it has half the power it usually has.

Beyond that the blend door needs to be fixed (I have the part for that)
The driver seat is horrible (but I have a ps skin to have stitched in it's place)

I'm just really really really tight on money, hence why I sold my trac loc that I so badly wanted to put on this car. I've got no job, can't get a job because it will cost more to get someone to watch our kids than for me to work, so I have to wait till I finish my degree till I can get a job. I get my BA degree this coming August, but then I have 2-2 1/2 years left in law school.

I've got $200 left to my name and I'm blowing through $35 a week in gas getting to school because my mileage is HORRIBLE with this issue I'm having. I won't get another check for financial aid until January. So as you can imagine I'm quite pissed because this car has completely bled me dry.

I'm not thinking this because you couldn't fix it this weekend. Just making sure you know that. After we talked I looked at my financial situation and realized how f'd I am, and how if this doesn't work I'm pretty much up the creek without a paddle.

well if the leak is so bad that spraying the intake nearly made the car die on you i would have to think if it was fixed that car would finally run nice again.

Get a quote for fixing the gaskets. If it's not too bad, it's worth taking a stab at.

"Beyond that the blend door needs to be fixed (I have the part for that)"

You are in florida! Who needs heat!

"The driver seat is horrible (but I have a ps skin to have stitched in it's place)"

You said you don't have any money left. Chances are any POS you get next will have a crappy seat too. Things like this you'll have to live with until you are out of school. Many of us have been through it, you'll have a good job and a nice car before you know it. Just hang in there.

Jamie's doing the gasket for a reasonable price, but my worry is if that doesn't fix the issue it's that much more money sunk into this car that I'll never get back.

The blend door needs to be done because it gets down into the 30's and 40's here in the winter at times. I can't bring my children into a car with no heat in those temps.

I don't know what I want to do yet. Maybe someone will really luck out and get a great deal, but I sure know that I won't drop my price even a nickel below what I'm asking because I'm too upside down. So in other words if I don't get what i'm asking, I won't be selling it.

I would park the car and get a cheap beater to run around in until I had the money to play with the Mark.

OK - go to Jamie, fix the gasket, fix the blend door.

See where you are then. If you have still have a problem, time to throw in the towel. It sounds like you aren't out too much to do these two things.

If you have to sell at that point, it's better to sell saying "It won't run right" than selling "it won't run right and it has no heat".

One other thing, wasn't there a problem with the cats? I can't remember all the threads. A plugged cat would cause the problem you describe. (50% power)

Yep. I had a beater a few years back and managed to hit the cat on a high speed bump causing the honeycomb brick inside to collapse. The car would start fine and run at part throttle, but when flooring it it felt like it had an anchor attached.

Derek, first thing you can manually move the blend door arm under the dash, so you can get heat if needed... I would get jamie to do the intake gaskets. Another idea i had is swap your exhaust with the front gutted cats for the stock lsc exhaust at jamie's shop. Your gutted cats, remember, could be contributing to the problem. I could help with the swap, but i am only available on tuesdays and wednesdays. Ill trade you your exhaust for mine, straight up, just consider it. Good luck mang.

Hell,,we're still up north working for the summer and won't be down to near Tampa til mid DEC. probably,,was looking forward to seeing you and JAMIE or should I say JAMIE and You,,since I knew him first. You've probably got the worst problems with your MARK worked out,,so hang in there. I once put all new pipes and glass packs on one of my first cars 1949 Crestline Ford Convertible,,sold it a couple days later always regretted that,,felt like I fixed it up for SOMEBODY ELSE.

Hey call that guy on the card,,go back in time with him,,when you get back you'll feel better. No seriously,,you'll just get another car and start "fixin" everything ON THAT ONE,,YA KNOW YA WILL !!

If you're hoping to get back what you paid for the car, better plan on keeping it. You don't want to fix the issues, so as it sits, it's a $1500 car. Fix the minor issues you have, and then LEAVE IT ALONE! If you don't touch it anymore, should last for a long time.
