My sun roof came off on its own. Lots of grinding, popping,
etc. Long story short I ended up having to take the glass off in order to
tape a trash bag to the top of my car- storm was coming and the glass was
literally just swinging in the wind. When I took it off there were screws
and a few broken pieces. I'm left with the glass and I kept the screws and
everything but I'm thinking I will need to but new parts in order to fix it since I can tell there are a few small pieces broken
.
Where can I find the mechanics since I already have the glass? The only
place around me who can fix it quoted me like $1100, which I'm trying to
avoid.... does anyone have any advice???

THat seems a high price since they can install a windshield for around $300.00. Try to source your own parts from a wrecker or off the internet. Is the glass broken or are other parts broken, too? Try going to an autobody shop for the repair as their hourly rate is cheaper than of a mechanic. Can you get parts at cost thru someone you know?

find a donor car and pull the sunroof, track and all. i had to do this in my car.
but you can (probably. most fords i have seen do it this way) pull the whole mechanism. motor, track and all. then just put a new one in from the other car.

not too hard, i did it in an afternoon.

Ok... it is just the mechanics of it that I think I need... the window itself is still in perfectly fine shape.. It looks like a LOT of small parts so I didn't know if it'd be worth me pulling one apart... The dealership (where we bought the car used) told me that it was an aftermarket sunroof BUT I later realized that the buttons and everything do not appear aftermarket so I'm thinking they just didn't want any part of fixing it... how can I tell if it's aftermarket?
