Last year I lived in northeast Maryland and we used to travel to Amish country once a week the back way to Lancaster county. We used to travel right through Nickel Mines PA and went right by the school where the shootings happened the day before. This school was only 25 miles from where we lived, and the aspect that chilled me to the bone was that the killer in that case had a milk route that went right by my daughter's school. The "what ifs" in that case kept me up a few nights.
We moved to northern Virginia (Manassas) back in the middle of December. We were out and about when we heard about the VT shootings while in a book store, the owner was frantically trying to get in touch with his daughter who is a student there. I found out the next day that the killer is from Centreville which is 5 miles from where I live. 7 of the students killed are from my immediate area including 2 others from Centreville and another from Vienna where my wife works. There has been media all over the place as a result.
It really makes you stop and think that where ever you are, whatever you are doing you are never really safe.
