So, i'm selling my Camaro z28 convertible and am looking at getting one of these. I have a few questions about them however.

How good are they offroad?
I realize that 98% of people probably never take these off road but I live out in the country so i'll be using it in the snow and occassionally down dirt trails. I've heard there are problems with the air ride systems when these are driven semi aggressively. I've been looking at this and a dodge durango, its a tough vehicle i'm just wondering how this will stack up.

Do they have fold in side mirrors?
I couldn't tell from the pictures, but its importent to me to be able to shave off that little bit a width side to side, if not however thats fine.

Are there any other nick nacks I should know about?
aka the electronic running boards on the newest ones ect.

What are the engine specs.
I was confused because I read the 4x2 and 4x4 had different hp ratings (could possibly have been for a different year)

Any ideas on design?
I've been thinking about putting a radio in with a flip out 7in screen and rigging it to a cheap computer i'll build into the car instead of paying the $1000 for a navigation system limited in capabililty. I also want to build in anaudio system into the car but I want to do everything without makeing it ghetto or (pimping it out) and keep the classy look of the vehical. Does anyone know of any good cardomain pages or ideas in general?

Any other recommendations, ideas, complains or praise?

Oh, and I know I should do a search for all of this stuff on the site but I was just looking for a general idea.

Any advice would be much appreciated; thanks in advance.

well, I don't own one so I can't answer your questions specifically. However, my bf's dad in high school had a new 98 and I talked to a guy one day recently that had a 99. Anyways, what a I can add: Riding in the 98 (this was 8 years ago ahah) I remember it being painfully slow. So much that he and I were making jokes about it. He would be like "watch this" and put it to the floor and it was S-L-O-W. Coming from a Z28..........ouch! I also want to remember that it had the optional 5.4 in it too. I don't know what the hp ratings of the 98-99 were but its low like 235 i think and with all the weight...its bad. Second, the gas mileage is terrible. Like 14-15 mpg combined city and hwy and it only uses premium. That was the only thing that guy could talk about was how bad the gas mileage was and how he had to get rid of it. As far as off road I don't know personally but I would venture to say not good. The reason i say is because of the weight and low power. In off roading you don't want something that is really heavy and if it is you want some serious power to get you outta there which the Navi doesn't have. Anyways, hope this helps.

My 1998 Lincoln Navigator

I bought a 1998 Lincoln Navigator in October 2005. My biggest problem I have had so far is that there is very little luggage room, and the gas mileage.
Behind the last seat there is enough room for one suitcase. You can remove the last seat easily, but I need the seating when traveling. The mirrors do fold in, but I haven't done that to then yet. I also do not go off road with the
truck. I get about 12-13 MPG with the truck. At the price of gas it takes alot to run it.
I love the way it drives, I think it also handles like a car. My kids are afraid to
drive it because it is so big to them.
I don't know what kind os audio system you would be putting in, but my came with a 6 disc cd player.
Another thing I have never liked about Ford SUV's is that they put the spare underneath the vehicle instead of inside the vehicle.

I have owned a Lazer Red '98 4wd Navi for 4 years. It has 4 wheel air suspension, 22's and minor upgrades (K & N, Magnaflow cat back, and Hypertech) It runs great, bad mileage 12 - 13, replaced suspension air compressor last summer. I went aftermarket for the part and I replaced it. Still great looking and runs great, 106,550 miles. Not real fast, but that is not what I bought it for. For 2 years it pulled a 32' Baja Outlaw, 8750 lbs. from Phoenix to Havasu or to LongBeach, CA
This summer I will upgrade to an '04 or '05. I drive an'02 LS V8,I bleed BLUE. Some say it is an incurable bacteria.
As for luggage room; after you put the suitcases in the back of a Tahoe, put adults in the back seats. The people in the front seats will enjoy the back rubbs from the knees of the rear passengers. We use the luggage rack. People comfort more important that luggage comfort. Want room go for an Excursion...
