I wanted to find out if the display from the 2003-2006 GPS/THX audio display is removable. I know it folds down, but is it a detachable face type display? I've never seen one in person, so I don't honestly know.

I've been shopping for an LS, and spotted one with this however, don't want it unless its detachable, since I sometimes park in a train station type parking lot.

I don't believe it is. But most thieves know that it's worthless without a whole lot of other stuff too...so I'm not sure it's a big concern that way. It is however, one heck of a fine system.

The stock navigation system is not easy to get out. I took it out to put my PIE Ipod adapter in. It has 4 8mm (if my memory serves me right) bolts holding it in. To get to these bolts you need to remove air vents, ashtray, and trim. The car also needs to be in drive, or else you can't move a lot of those parts out (the shift knob gets in the way).

I honestly think it would take too long. And as 2001LS8Sport said, the nav system requires many parts not found in a LS that doesn't already have the navigation system. They would have to upgrade the steering wheel and wiring harness at the very least.

It is not a detachable faceplate. What advantage would a detachable faceplate provide? If you are concerned about theft, keep in mind that you can't take all the radio components out of the LS without a lot of tools and a lot of time. For example, in the THX system, the main amplifier and the GPS box are in the trunk.

If you really want to get creative you could make it removable, but as they said before car thievies know what is hot and what is easy to steal and resale. The THX in our cars isn't very easy to remove and even if they did get everything, I think there can still be some reprogramming that has to go along with it. If the car is the right price, get it, the system is very nice. If not get something cheaper and go aftermarket, just remeber that aftermarket might be easier to steal then factory.

Thanks for the responses guys. Unforunately, even the crooks around the lot I park aren't the brightest, so they aren't usually looking to make a few bucks, but moreso looking to fill their weed pipe.

The car is an excellent price (under 20K) V8, red, black leather, loaded, under 20K miles. I am considering looking at it when can get there (its about 40 miles away). Then we'll see. I was trying to locate an 02-03 for 16-18, but those seem few and far between all of a sudden.

If a dealers asking price is 19K and their i-net price is 18K, how flexible do you find most dealers? Most seem to be asking too much for much of their stock. I looked at an 02 blue one today that was 18,999 and didn't even have a clean carfax, but had a history of frame damage.

eeprete were are you from if you in NYC then you shouldnt have a problem with it - the thieves now that peaple dont buy factory radios anymore cuz aftermarket are alot cheaper than they used to be so they know more than you think, if there is now buyer then they wont take it, they usually have a buyer before they steal, now aftermarket systems they are are esier and more likley to be taken than factory.
