I promise to nicer if you promise to be smarter.
I've been thinking of buying a new bike for a few months now, and last week I stopped by a Kawi dealer to talk to them about a Connie.

They had 2 of them (have, still? dunno), a 2010 in Blue and a 2011 in black.

Both have the ABS and traction control. They are identical bikes, sans the color.

Of course, I'd prefer the black one, but the price difference between the 2 of them is about 1,600 dollars. I think I can find a good body shop to paint the fairings for less than $1,600, no?

The guy did look at me a little funny when I told him "I refuse to pay Arizona Sales tax".
"But... you have to"
"Nope. I do not, since I won't be registering it in AZ"
"oh..."

I stole the picture off the interwebZ. All credit goes to the people who took the picture.

Looks fancy, albeit not my style. Needs a steel bumper.

That bike is gorgeous- and it has 155hp!
I've had my bike for quite some time now, but I'll never buy another cruiser again...
I was actually looking for a V-Strom, but none were available here when I had the itch to buy... maybe for the best.

I think it would be easy to find a good shop to spray it.

Are you sold on the Connie?
I read somewhere they need a tune to wake them up.
Love the bike though...also the ST1300 and the FJR1300.
I would have to have seat time on all three before I could decide.

I'm thinking along the same lines, Nut. A good shop should charge me nowhere near $1,600 to re-spray the panels.

Am I sold on it? Yeah. I've spoken to a few sport touring types, several of them Connie owners who have had just about everything else Sport touring under the sun and they all tell me the same thing. Great cruiser that you can throw around in the twisties relatively well. No full on canyon carving sport bike, but that's not what I am after. I'm after a bike that I can ride for 900 miles and my three nuts won't feel like they were rattled loose.

ST1300: I am not a fan of pan weaving Now, while I don't plan on always traveling at 100+ MPH, it's nice to know the ass end won't act up at over 100.

The FJR... meh. It's more sport than touring, IMHO.

As far as waking up the Connie?... Nothing a good tune and removal of secondary butterflies can't fix.

I haven't ridden the other 2, but the Connie I did. Well, it was an 08. Regardless, the bike fit well. Even for a tall bastard like me.

Your in a warm area, the connie would be a better choice just because of the heat issues.

I heard it was a little cramped for a tall rider, which makes no sense to me.
Connies are well known to be tipped over by riders with short pegs.

A cold climate...like minnnneasooota, the heat that is trapped by the honda's bubble would be welcome.

Don't go 100+ too much any more, its as bad as a DUI up here if caught.

But I know what a wobble at that speed feels like.
If I planned on high speeds, the Honda would get the axe.

The kawie is a great bike, your going to love it.

Ironically, the 08 and 09 had major heat issues with air coming off the motor practically baking the rider's legs. 10 and up saw re-designed fairings that eliminated this problem.

Short of a custom chopper, tall bubbas will always be slightly cramped on these bikes.

'far as going high speed... I don't usually do it, but it's ice to know the option the there.
