So, I bought a brand new Honda Pilot and I'm planning to get the LS serviced properly now that I have a 2nd ride. My LS is an 02 with 134k. Biggest problems have been multiple windows regulators, thermostat, hydraulic cooling fan replacement, alternator replacement, coils, coils, coils. I replaced all 8 coils recently and spark plugs, but still need to get the VCGs done.

There are a few problems that I know I need to have fixed like the valve cover gaskets. But a couple others I am not sure what the problem is.

1. There is this clunking sound when riding usually below 40mph. It sounds like it;s coming from the front suspension area, but I am not certain. It's intermittent, and happens on both smooth and partially rough roads. Seems there is no rhyme or reason to the road condition, I just hear it sometimes, usually on my trek to work after about a mile of driving until I hit the highway at which point I don't hear it anymore until I slow down again in city driving.

2. I keep hearing this whining sound as I press the gas to accelerate. I don't think it's power steering or transmission, so I'm thinking alternator. The alternator was replaced 2-3 years ago, but I am not certain the brand or quality of the replacement. This only happens when I accelerate pressing the gas. It does not happen when accelerating down a hill without pressing the gas for instance.

3. My AC during the summer is not what it used to be. Would a basic AC recharge be all that I need? It just doesn't cool very well anymore.

4. I need to touchup some paint. on the back under the trunk lid. There's an area about 1" long X 14" wide on the bumper where the paint has just worn down to white. I would like to make it completely black again without spending a lot of cash.

1. could be anything from sway bar links to ball joints on the front. you need to get under the car
and take a look at the components to give you a better idea of whats needed.

2. whining may be the hydraulic fan pump, or the ac compressor possibly

3. see # 2, that could be your issue, or could be the dccv on its way out. or, could just need a recharge.
either way you have a leak, and would need a dye test to confirm origin.

4. you'll either have to try and tackle this yourself - or get multiple quotes from body shops. do it yourself
kits have come A LONG WAY from just a few years ago, so maybe a good project.

Elephant gave you good advice. However, I'll add that you should investigate the condition of your front sway bar bushings. More than likely they are dry rotted and cracking. The bushings are more commonly the culprit to the clunking you're experiencing as opposed to the sway bar end links.

Best of luck, and you're in the right place for help.
