When should i change my timing belt. I have a 01 LS with about 68k on it. A friend of mine's timing belt went out and his engine blew. He had about 90k on his car. I dont need that happening to me. Any input would be great.

were on a chain driven system. Dont worry about changing it unless your timing is way out of whack.

I was told the V8 has a chain drive. But I wonder about the V6. I suspect the 6 has a belt, but I don't know for sure. Usual recommendation for belt changes is around 60-80K miles or every 5 years or so.

You don't want to lose a belt, since you could have major engine damage if it occurs.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson

According to the info on Gates' website - no timing belts on the V6s. No timing belts on any Lincoln vehicles period....
