Hello all I'm a newbie to this forum by choice since I purchased a 2000 LS v8 with 117,000 for $1500 with a rod knock hehehe (from a dealer)
Well I knew it wasn't a rod knock since I've worked on my sister's 03 LS V8 (fun times) and of course its the secondary timing chain tensioner on the passenger side. Now I know what some might say "search" on here and you'll find everything and trust me I've been searching which has helped but I have a real dumb question.
I've worked on many cars from eclipses, mustangs 4.6, audi & bmws, lets just say cars don't last long with me due to accidents or theft. But any how so I'm using the "take the entire exhaust cam off" approach to replacing the tensioner which should be here soon that I bought off Christophers ebay site.
I noticed today that my exhaust cam flat spot isn't up as my intake cam flat spot is, which probably means its off a tooth. Since I'll have the cam off do I
1) When installing rotate the cam to be even ?
or
2) Actually move the chain a tooth and then install the cam evenly?
Extra: I bought the car with 4 misfires I replaced all 4 COP and waiting on the other 4 to come in to replace them, new fuel filter, thermostat & cap for the plastic bottle, which I'll be removing the air (should be fun)
#4 Cyl Misfires and it was one of the original "bad" coils that I replaced. I've swapped the #4 coil & splug with #3 and it still comes back to #4 and the injector is working. I'm thinking this is the reason why its coming back as a misfire. Like I said the other 4 are on order and I will swap out asap.
Thanks !
