timing chain tensioner loose?

hello

I pulled my passenger side valve cover today, trying to find the source of the loud clacking idol I have. car sounds like it has a diesel engine.

anyway I noticed the passenger side primary timing chain is abit loose. I can pull about a 1/8th inch of slack from the top of the cam gear.
is this normal?


car is a 1995 mark viii lsc 65,000 miles.

iv read the tensioners bleed down with no oil pressure. thats why I assumed it might be normal to have a loose chain . the secondary chain was tight as all hell tho.
