What up Everyone?

Got tint over the weekend and finally had a chance to clean "The Executive" up after all the snow we just got. I went with the 3M Color Stable tint. 50% on all the sides and 35% on the rear window. I know that's gonna be too light for some of the members here, but there are pretty strict laws in PA (70% aka no tint at all). I shoulda went with 35% all around because of my light interior, but what's done is done and I likes the look. Anyways, enjoy the pics.

Looks nice man, how did you black out the side window trim? I want to do it to my BMW.

U did you ls like that too?? It looks good... how hard was it?? U got any pics??

If I had to do it again, I would pay a friend that paints to do it. It's not hard, just time consuming. I'm about to go to dinner, I'll post pics of the procedure when I get back.

Black Trim pics

Pics as promised. This takes a lot of balls to do. I was nervous, but I like the black out look a lot better.

Came out sweet. Did you sand the chrome trim or did you use self-etching primer before painting? Gonna hit this up next week.

I wet sanded it, primed it (2 coats), Painted it (2 coats), and Clear Coat (2 coats). Take your time with the taping. That took me the longest. I still had some spots where I had to touch up, but tape well.

do you mind telling us what products you used?
thanx

I also got my car tinted this weekend. 20front doors, 15 rear doors and 15 back window. Love it!
The angel eyes have people been breaking their necks and the tint has them knocked out. The tint adds a lot to the Lincoln esp a black one, it's almost as if it's meant to be.

I don't want to even say what happens when people see the red angel eyes.

i just did this project last week, too. very time consuming with the tape. i have a lot of respect for ppl who prep/paint now. i just bought my stuff from my local autozone.

turned out good with the limo tint

car looks good, btw flyby

Thanks for all the comments. I think all black cars need tint. I am not big on tint, but thought since I have a black car that it was necessary (hence the lightness). As for the products used, I did what Dead President mentioned and hit up the local automotive store. I used painters tape, wet sandpaper, an auto primer, and a can of high gloss automotive spray paint, and duplicolor clear coat. Buy about 3 or 4 rolls of tape and have the wide and thin tape. I ran out and had to buy more. Nothin' like being in the middle of a project and having to stop to pick up more supplies.

As for painting the rims black...not my cup of tea. However, I think the LSE 17" rims (anthracite? not sure) are awesome on a black LS and wouldn't mind having them. But for now I'll keep the stock rims cause not many people keep them on their cars. And around here, everyone driving an LS has the 16 inch rims.

Yea those grey LSE rims would look really nice on your car man, these look good also though.

I just did a test taping of my car... went pretty easy and I should be able to tape it of in under an hour. I simply laid blue tape over the entire chrome piece, then used a razorblade in the groove between the chrome and plastic trim to cut the tape. Removed the tape on the chrome and left everything else protected. Piece of cake!

You could always paint them the anthracite color... I did and it was very simple and the finish is extremely durable:

Looks sweet and the painted chrome strip makes it look even better. I'm planning to paint the chrome around my windows too but I'm going to use flat black instead of a glossy look. Keep up that good work!

ya that would look really nice but i would be way too afraid to do all that. I dont think the risk of me messing up is worth the reward of having black trim

i wouldn't attempt in either, but its not as big a risk on a black car

was that trim chrome or just silver before you painted it?

btw it looks great!:)

It wasn't real chrome, or chrome like the plastic grille. It was the standard chrome window trim, and it looked silver/brushed after the sanding. That's what you see in the pic with the tape.

would it be the same procedure for the chrome on the bumpers?
