Here's my experience with 20" rims. I've been running them for almost six years on my car. Like others have said, depending on the offset and width of the rim, and the size tires will determine if you will rub or not. I'm on my second set of rims. On my first set I had them for a little over three years before I sold them to a friend. Didn't have scratch on them except for one rim where I grazed a curb while parking at the mall because I didn't cut my wheel hard enough. I avoid pot holes at all cost even when I had my factory tires on. I run Nitto 555 Extremes on my rims and they are smooth and quiet tires. Also they are wider than most tires in 245/35 . No matter what size tire or rims you are running, the most important thing is to check your air pressure in your tires. As the tires begin to wear, they will start to slowly lose air pressure. So if you don't monitor your air pressure and you hit even the smallest pot hole or bump in the road, you can damage your wheels. Just my five cents.
