just want to wish everyone good luck and hope we all get spared a little. looks like Fay is going to be my first west coast tropical storm/ hurricane if it strengthens. its projected path is bringing it right up the coast swiping right by where i live. if it puts its eastern edge along the coast i could be in trouble at my house being 3/4 of a mile from the gulf shore they say storm surge could be 10 to 15 feet which would easily push the gulf waters to my neighborhood. if we get the western edge of the storm they predict tons of rain and 80-95 mph sustained winds with gusts around 100 mph. i have lived here for over 5 years now and only saw 60 to 70 mph winds back in 04 with charlie and that was awesome, it doesnt sound like much but it was enough to knock out the sub station behind my old house for 22 hours and dumped so much rain and knocked all kinds of trees and power lines down, and even knocked a huge car port down on a condo in dunedin on top of about 30 cars. so even though they only predict cat 1 hurricane, its still serious enough to not ignore and since its path is directly in my direction, i'm staying alert on this one. i know other members here are in florida so i'm wishing you well, no matter where this one goes, the entire state is going to feel it from coast to coast. be safe everyone.

i'm just west of where the word tampa is right along the water, we already have watch's and it isnt supposed to be here till tuesday, but feeder bands are already hitting miami and fort meyers.

Good luck! The only action we get is huge waves over here. Body surfing 8-10 ft waves sept. is as much as we've ever seen

Good Luck Jamie! hope you and 'blue' and everyone make it through untouched. I'll say a prayer for you all!

Jim

Yeah, thanks. Only prep im gonna do is move the car away from under a big tree. Wife is a nurse. Shes on call for hurricane watch - if she gets called in i have to go with her! Dog too! (don't ask me why - hospital policy or something )

Yeah, its an emergency plan that the hospital has. Keeps everyone together for the well being of the medical staff. Apparently they have a designated area for families and pets. Plus they have food and back up power supply.

Hopefully the wind won't be too strong and my car will remain in one place! Lol.

Gonna look all around the apt complex tomorrow for an optimum spot - one away from big trees, buildings and power lines.

I just moved out of that area a couple weeks ago. It feels strange not to have the local media and everyone around me buzzing about the storm tracking it. I have family, stuff, and some property in the area still and it's unsettling.

I'm comforting myself, saying "it's only a Cat 1". And also, this isn't the first storm they've anticipated hitting Tampa Bay, I've seen them defy the center line of the cone and smack into Ft Myers or go to the panhandle.

A strong storm hitting Tampa Bay would be catastrophic. Even a 2 or 3 could easily destroy St. Pete and give New Orleans a run for it's money when judged on the civil unrest.

Jump in your mark viii and stay in front of it!!...My prays are with you all! STAY SAFE!!

if anything happens and its bad i hope fema isnt who we rely on!! i'd rather get wiped off the planet before i'd wait for them. i'm sure we'll all be alright though its not supposed to grow to a strong storm. martin, this is what i told you about, when you asked what it was like, you are about to see, even if it hits us as a tropical storm you will be quite impressed, so pray it isnt a cat 1 or cat 2 or you'll be crying not impressed!!
the news at noon today said if it holds just slightly to the west of our coast we could see cat 2 that isnt something i want to witness, cat 2 is well over 100 mph sustained winds that would leave a serious mark! back in 04 i think when charlie made landfall in the port charlotte area just south of me and cut diagnal across the state from south west to north east the winds at my shop were still strong enough to peel the shop roof back on the first 6 shops, luckily i am down in 11 and 12 so i was nice and dry inside but the guys in the first shops had huge sky lights in their shops lol. i'm working on a street bike in my shop right now so i'll be there during the whole thing, doors open, fans on and tv with the news on and i'll stay busy at least until i lose power!

Yeah, i don't fancy 100 mph + winds. Just been looking on wunderground at the hourly forecast for Tampa. At the moment it lists a peak wind of 61 mph at 11 pm tomorrow night. Winds gone by Wednesday afternoon. I'll keep an eye out for updates though. Wife has gone out to get extra stuff. All i gotta do now is bring all our stuff in from outside and move car to a better spot.

you and the dog might have to go with her cuz they want them concentrating on their job rather than their loved ones... no idea just speculation

martin and jamie, and everyone else down there, you guys stay high and dry (not like that ;)) and we'll see you guys in chat on wed

Well, according to the latest reports its gonna be a mild one. Shouldn't be anything to worry about.

Lol, yup! The English guy from NJ who lives in FL and is moving to NC!

Still nothing here in Tampa - nothing more than a 3 mph wind at the moment.

I am in Jacksonville, looks like I will be dead in the middle of it:eek:

we didnt get squat, some light rain, lol all the hype, from now on when there is anything out near florida im not listening to the news at all. this happened with charlie too, they got all excited and made everyone on this coast go to the east coast and charlie ripped up the state and nailed the east coast. so they made everyone move to the side that got hammered. i was hoping for some wind and rain at least and nothing, today was supposed to be so bad lol we get thunder storms more impressive then what we got with this! oh well, we still have two active months to go and sep and oct and usually when the tropics get the most activity so hopefully we'll get pounded with at least one!!! in just over 5 years i have yet to see anything tropical that scared me, all this talk about florida and hurricanes???? where the hell are they i havent seen a good one yet, its been 100 years since tampa bay took a direct hit and i bet it will be another 100 before it gets hit again. its funny that so many people who dont live here say " oh but the hurricanes there blah blah blah" my uncle and aunt have been here 16 years and only andrew scared them, my wifes uncle has been here for 14 years and hasnt seen anything bad, i have been here for over 5 and nothing, so how come so many people complain about hurricanes here?

Lol. Didn't even get rain here. Nothing more than a cool, cloudy day. Every time i checked the online forecasts they were different. One hour it was gonna be 60 mph winds swinging up the west, the next it was 20 mph winds headed east - Lol. Ended up being nothing at all. (here at least)

Not that i care to see real strong winds - lightning storms are cool but winds and resulting floods can stay away.

The media is doing a huge disservice to the community by sensationalizing the story, BEFORE it even happens. Too many Floridians are getting Hurricane fatigue, it gets one group of people hysterical and another large group just ignore it all together.

Can't agree with you more...

Disaster sells.. so lets hype it up... and get everyone scared and excited... pretty soon it will be like the boy who cried wolf and we'll get hit by something big but no one will believe it.

Thanks Fox, CNN, MSNBC,, and the rest...

We want news with no emotions or opinions we get enough drama the rest of the time.

I'm happy everyone was save a disaster and that all were safe.
