On my 1994 Continental, it seems that when I put fill it up, maybe a little to much sometimes, the check engine light comes on and goes off until some of the gas in the tank is used up. It is less then a gallon when the problem stops.

I would guess maybe some raw fuel is making its way into the canister via the vent line. after a few miles, it would be drawn down low enough to clear it out. Not a recommended practice, getting fuel into canister, they are not designed to handle raw fuel.

just a guess on my part.

I had the same problem when I first bought my car. Try not to top off when you know the tank is full. The problem will go away. As michigan said it is very bad for the canister to get raw fuel in it.

We have to prepay at the stations here in VA and I had paid $20 and it stopped at $18 something and I really didn't feel like going back in for my change. Guess I am getting a little lazy...

Pay at the pump will be your friend...

pay at the pump is good...

but....

if you live like I do... No checking acct, credit cards, ect.... Cash only for all business... it don't work! I seen 1 pump that accepted cash.. like 15 years ago, and it worked about as good at accepting $ as you would expect for bill changer in a semi-exposed to the eviroment would work.. it didnt!

WOW...I don't know if I should congratulate you or be very afraid of how antiquated your methods are.

Eitherway, makes sense.

My situation is of my own choice... I have had... well, lets say a checkered past with charge cards and checkbooks... this way I don't spend anything I don't have.. was a problem for a bit.. still is to some extent (people wanting money I didn't have back when I spent it!)

I have no problem with the 'modern' ways.. I was a very modern person not too long ago... As I said, this is by choice, after having screwed up big time in the past.

BTW.. I find myself less stressed about everything right now too...

Michigan, I applaud you, I hate the idea of credit. It sounds good, but to tell you the truth. I feel uncomfortable owning something that I am still paying for. Witgh Credit Cards. It is like that. Heres a beer to ya!!:Beer

Sorry, came off dissing, not my intent, I was more just lost in my own words. It does impress me, but still odd in this day in age.

Thanks Conti...

Wish I had a beer... cant afford to buy any right now... and as of this afternoon, the 91 conti is sittin in yard.. rear air suspension... and a heater core!

don't know what to do right now, it needs both rear struts, 1 front strut (might as well do all 4), don't know if I want to keep air, or go coil. Or even keep it. I am mulling over the possibilities, there is a chance I might part it out, or sell it as a parts car. its a shame to do that, its a damn good piece, except for a couple things that are minor. Runs like new, only a couple rust spots (it lives in Northern MI), heat is awesume as long as radiator is full, AC don't work (low, and still r-12). All in all, its done me well while I have had it... I have about 300 invested in it total (not counting tax, plate, ins), the car was given to me, and they guy I got it from even paid $100 to have it towed to my house!

Looks like I will be under my trusty rusty Jimmy fixing my exhaust leak with another soup can or 2..
