My local Ford dealer has always been good to me as far as service goes. I think i remember seeing that there are some people on here that work at dealerships so i thought i could get an inside opinion on this. I got a set of coupons in the mail for service. There is one that is for $89.95 and includes synthetic oil and filter, fuel filter, air filter, rotate tires, top off fluids and all the little check this and check that stuff. Pretty good deal i think. I told the service guy that i had a k&n filter so i dont need that changed BUT i do need a new cabin filter and wanted the cost of the air filter to be deducted from the cabin filter if there is a price difference. From his reaction it didnt seem likely. Why would that be a problem ? If the price i am paying includes the air filter and they arent going to replace it then i am going to tell them to just throw it on the front seat and i'll take it home, but i dont see why they cant substitute a cabin filter.

It's kind of like the "blue plate special" at a restaurant. You start deviating from what's offered and the price goes up...even if it seems to make sense to you. They very possibly received a special price for many of the items in the coupon by buying in quantity. I know it seems strange to you, but if you could see how they put the deal together, it might make more sense.

That would be like saying they are giving you tires anyway, why not just put different ones on. It has to do with the way that they put the whole deal together and how they prebought the parts to do the deal. And Isn't it a little more to do the cabin filter than the air filter??

they wouldnt give u anything to take home.. u wouldnt be able to take the filter home.. what u can do is take out the K&N.. and let them replace the old filter u have.. but that wouldnt help much.. u can do that, get the new filter and sell it... u dont have factory warranty? if u do the filter will be replaced under warranty

The original deal doesn't sound too bad. A place around me does synthetic with oil filter, 15 point inspection, and a free car wash for 50 bucks.

Ok, the car is back in the driveway. They ended up doing me right. I dont know what a dealer charges for a cabin filter, but they only charged me $12 for it after deducting the air filter cost. And the coupon was for the traditional "up to 5 quarts" deal regarding oil. Since the car takes 6.9 quarts they didnt charge me for the additional 1.9 quarts. Turned out fine and i'm a happy customer. Isnt that the way its supposed to work ? Also its a 2002 with 85000 miles...thus no warranty.
