i am almost done getting my tranny out of the car to replace.

my question is

does anyone have a trick to hold the flywheel/engine from turning while i break the converter nuts loose?

i keep trying to turn them off but the engine wants to rotate, and t of course is trying to rotate counterclockwise which is a no no for engines.

how can i hold it still while i break the nuts loose?

thanks.

ps,pulling a tranny really sucks on a stone driveway.

i really need a paved driveway or better yet,a garage.dang i am sore.

I know what you mean man, I did this job on my back and it sucked!

About holding the engine from turning over, you're going to need another set of hands. Get preferably a 1/2" ratchet and whatever size socket that needs to fit the crank pulley bolt. Have them hold the engine from turning while you undo the T/C bolts one a time.

Good luck...

Last time I did a trans,I actually used Vice Grips right on the flywheel.I put a piece of terry cloth on it and clamped it down. Then I let it rotate towards the side and it stayed there. Then when I moved onto the next bolt I did it again
