I just prepped painted and installed a McClaren-style lower grille on my black LS, using automotive paint and clearcoat. After doing so, I noted a tiny scratch and, without thinking it through, shot it with the same paint and clearcoat. The place I touched this up now appears chalky white. I did the initial painting inside and I'm guessing the reason it turned was that it was around 33 degrees when I touched it up. Am I correct in assuming the temp is the problem here? If so, I'll hit it again when it warms up to the mid-fifties on Wednesday. Not sure if I'll have to resand or not. ( I sure don't want to uninstall it and take it back inside to do so.) Opinions?

Bill,

33 degrees is way too cold to be painting unless you are in a climate controlled paint booth. You may want to wait until the temps get a little bit warmer.

Yep, I did the initial work indoors and should've done the same with the touch-up. Thanks Ken :)

Had some warm days here and completed the project. Took a picture and, of course, my photography skills are right up there with my paint skills. Here's a shot anyway. I've been using Duplicolor Black Spray, along with their clear coat. After a couple of small projects with it, I'm considering shooting my front bumper cover. I'm sure it would turn out better than it looks now with all the little dings and perma-bug marks that 70K miles have put on it.

Bill,

That looks pretty good. Did you get that lower grille from an LLSOC member?

Yep. Ron G. got it from Chris and never took it out of the box. Chris drew the template on the inside of the box, smart guy that he is, so I just made some minor adjustments with my dremmel, after I cut the piece down. It was from that original batch of ten, from way back when. It might be worth checking into , as an LSK item. Not sure how big the market is for them. (It would probably be a good idea to cut them down to the template size and let the buyer make final adjustments.)
