My 94 Town Car wipers park in the fully extended or up position, when turned off, but stop in the normal down position when running in intermitten mode. Can anyone enlighten me as to what the problem might be. I have ordered a new wiper motor, but would like to know if I need to order anything else.

Thank you for any help.

Thank you, but the wipers do not park half way up the windshield but all the way. I have the new motor and will install it over the weekend.

Thanks again.

Well I guess you took the halfway literally. Actually, they can park anywhere and this procedure may fix your problem.

Do as you want, but you have to remove the motor anyway. I guess I'm a believer in trying to repair something instead of throwing it in the garbage, which seems to be the "American Way" now-a-days. If I can save a buck I will, it will buy a 1/3 gallon gas !

I guess my advice fell on deaf ears.

Good Luck

Tim

I'm feelin ya tim and I think I'll try your procedure myself. It does appear hard to follow though and I would feel much better if you were looking over my shoulder while I did it.

I located the problem and found out a way to make the wipers go down when I don't need them anymore, but its just a hassle. You're guide shows promise though and I'll give it a shot. Its definitly better than replacing the whole motor.

Hey, are you Tim from ClassicLincolns.com?

If you are, I hope you got the recall letter from Ford on the under-hood fire issue. I thought it was just 94-95 TC's so I figured I was safe when I purchased my 93, but wouldn't you know it, its included in the recall.

So I only did the part of the guide that involves cleaning the operating arm and the sliding cam plate and it appears now (as I suspected when I first inspected the issue) that the interface between the operating arm and the cam plate has either worn or broken. It appears to me that the part of the operating arm that grabs the cam plate may have been broken or rounded off since its no longer a sharp point.

If you have a situation similar to mine, remove the wiper motor cover, put the wipers in their slowest intermitant state, and between wipes, push the cam plate toward the passenger side. Turn the wipers off before they swipe again, and they will go down where they are suppose to instead of up.

Cleaning and lubing the cam plate won't make a difference in this situation because the components involved in moving the plate back and forth when the wipers are in motion are hard and won't flex when the wipers are in operation. I will either be going to a junk yard to find an operating arm and cam plate that work correctly together or buying a new motor assembly which includes those parts new.

Good luck guys!
