today i went for a ride in my Ls. its an 03 premium sport. when i was driving it my transmition slipped i think. It did it in the 2-3rd shift. the car reved up to like 3000rpms and then shifted into third. this was under light accelaration. I tried to see if it would do it under hard accelerartion and it shifted fine. This is like the third time I have noticed this within the last two weeks and now I am starting to worry. What could be wrong with it? When i got home i went under the car just to check things out and the tranny has a blue sticker on it that says REMANUFACTURED and it has a bunch of model numbers on it. So what does that mean? Also when Im on the freeway cruising at around 65mph the car seems to hesitate a little until it upshifts, and the car seems like it needs more power in the lower rpm ranges. its only after 4000rpms when the power really kicks in. I feel like this car revs too much for being a V8, the way a V6 does, and im averaging 9.1mpg. my moms escalade averages 9.6mpg and i think thats unacceptable. The best i averaged was 22mpg in the freeway with the cruise control set at 70mph. but as soon as I got back in the city it started going back down really quick. I bought the car with 59k miles and now it has 60k. I love this car but at the same time I hate it. please help.

well the trans was changed once obviously, if they beat on the first trans, they probably beat on the replacement until you bought it.... my car has plenty of power all around and your 03 should have more power than mine. 22 mpg with cruise at 70 sounds about right, I just went on a trip last weekend, cruised 75 mph the whole time, averaged 23.4 in my LSE with no cargo, myself, synthetic oil and good fuel. ANYTHING other than babying the LS will get you about 15 mpg city at the most, I get around 12.... The LS is TERRIBLE, wretchid in the city.

I had similiar symptoms in my '03 premium sport, but with the addition of a banging especially between 2-3 gears. It ended up being the torque converter, and it had to be replaced. My car also seems slugish in low rpm, but this is normal according to the dealership. Keep in mind it's a small V8. I do think you have a problem with your gas mileage though, unless you're driving like a complete maniac. I live in the city and drive pretty fast, but I rarely drop below 12 miles per gallon and around 25 mpg on the highway.

i suffered the same symptoms and then my tranny died. new tranny is already starting to do the same thing. thinking one of two things.

1.) rear end is bad causing severe drag (I have the whine too) causing tranny probs

2.) flow blockage in trans fliud cooler and/or lines (I flushed but didn't replace when I did the tranny)

I'm thinking #2. Gonna swap coolers this weekend and see what happens. good luck.

I was having the same problem with the hard shifts under light throttle and smoother shifts under heavy throttle. It ended up being a solenoid in the transmission. It also happened around 60k miles, but I didn't have a rebuilt trans.

I had the same problem at around 75 K miles. I ended up buying a used one with less than a thousand miles on it and a full lifetime warranty. The Lincoln dealers never touch the transmissions and always send them out. So if you need to get it checked just ask them where they send their transmissions out to. The transmission I got was the exact same one that the dealership was going to buy and charge me an additional $1200 dollars for. So far, no problems since.
