While under medium acceleration with my Mark I am having problems with my car shuttering for about three seconds. I had my transmission flushed and filter changed hoping that would solve the problem but had no luck. I am wondering if this is something easy to fix or if I am going to have to bite the bullet and get it fixed. The part I dont like is babying it around with my friends to keep it from doing it, I cant let them know my mark has a problem.

Where should I start !!!

When you had it flushed, did they flushed the tranny cooler/lines, and drain the torque converter? IF they didn't, then the problem will just resurface.

Oh, and if you are talking about a 3/4 upshift, or 4/3 down shift then it is called converter shudder. Also it must be above 35mph.

Hope they used Mercon V it solved a lot of tranny issues!

Also you didn't mention what year. Most Marks 93-97 need a 1-2 accumulator piston/spring upgrade that cures a sensation like driving over a washboard. 98s already have the mod. Do a search and you will find lots of references and check the Tech section.

Well i called the lincoln dealer i took my car to about the shuttering and they said that they do flush the torque convertor and the coolant lines. when I asked him what it could be, he said that it could be the clutches in the torque convertor. Could it be this.

Well, the ford TSB, says it may take up to 50 miles of driving to cure the problem. If it doesn't you may have to change the converter.

If it's happening in third and fourth gear, it's probably converter clutch slippage.

I've come across a couple of ways to remedy this.

Part of it is using Mercon V.

The other part depends on what year your car is, and how brave you are when it comes to taking things apart.

That's very likely the problem.
