Which one should I use on my mark VIII?

The aluminum flow through one is much bigger but I have heard people say that the plate type will cool better.

I pulled the larger one from a truck at the pic a part, I pulled the plate style one from an older mercury, it was an oil cooler, looks like a factory piece.

Thanks, Rich.

Cool. Where did you guys mount your trans cooler at? in front of the A/C condensor or near the bottom of the bumper cover? Also which trans line running into the radiator is the return line? top or bottom? I want to leave the factory radiator cooler inline and then run the add on cooler afterwards.

I mounted mine in front of the ac condensor but it might be ok near the bottom of the bumper cover but when you are idling in traffic it might not get enough air flow thru it. your call on that bud. :)

Thanks for the info, I guess I will see where to mount it once I take it apart. It's pretty thick, about 1 3/4 inches thick, 11 inches side to side, and 9 inches top to bottom. It was an engine oil cooler on an older mercury of some sort. Looked like it was either factory or a dealer add on. I flushed it really good so it's nice and clean. I'm pretty sure that it will work as a trans cooler as well. Probally even more heavy duty.
