Trans Help Please

I just had my 93 mark viii towed to the shop for a pass. side ball joint. No problem as far as I know. I picked the car up and as Iwas driving away NO THIRD GEAR. I thought I had it in 2 but it was in D. Whipped around to the shop to ask what happened of course nobody Knows. It goes through 1---2---then neutral until the speed goes down to wheresecond gear is.Can anybody tell me what happened?

Your trans is most likely shot! The same thing happened to me and I had it rebuilt. It will cost you around 1200 for a rebuild. You'd be better off buying a used 98+ trans.

How far they tow it, rear wheels on the ground in nuetral, thats rough on a tranny ya know.

Yeah I thought about that too, thats why I will only have a flatbed tow.

Ive heard that with the driveshaft in, being towed even while in neutral can mess up your shiz.

They towed it about 10 to 15 miles, I was so discusted, they didn't tie the ball joint so the front wheel was pushing against the bumper, I thought the exhaust tips were going to scrape the ground. It was in neutral. Do you think the tow did it?

10-15 miles is pretty long distance, I've only had a few cars towed in my day(knock on wood). I seem to remember many of people telling me this over the years.

I took the driveshaft out of my 78' trans am when I towed it to the storage facility.
