I've made extensive use of the search funtion regarding swapping in a manual transmission into the LS V8. And I haven't run across the idea of an adapter plate. Such as this company makes...

Wouldn't that be an easier, and cheaper, option when wanting to do a manual swap? Instead of spending thousands to have a custom bell housing cast.

Here's a list of companies that do this kind of work;

Please chime in with your opinions...

I've been thinking about this a lot lately. When mine is paid off I may see what I can find out.

what are you going to do about the computer? my v6 manual has a different ecu than v6 auto. when you get an adapter made you usually have to get a special flywheel clutch setup also to match the thickness and the tranny input shaft. you gonna run a hydraulic clutch or cable? custom driveshaft also. the best would be to try to adapt to new mustang trannys so things will be close to matching up. adapting the tranny to engine bolts is the easy part on the ls swap.

Stick shift conversion

I've been doing some exploration. QUICK TIME is a manufacturer of race bell housings and have the capability to drill one of their existing pieces with the approximately 16 inch bolt circle necessary to attach to the AJ V-8 engine. It would then be necessary to acquire a Richmond (or other V-8 type) transmission, and have one of the hotrod parts outfits drill a flywheel to match the crank bolt circle of the AJ engine. A complete hydraulic throw-out package is also a shelf part. Minus the transmission, all the parts and mods can probably be done for more-or-less $2K

So 2k for a manual that will fit,

Now add custom drive shaft, oh and make the LS computer think everything is copestetic.

Like bmxls said, I think starting with a +05 Mustang GT's 5 speed, would make the job easier, since the auto in the stang is the same as the auto in the LS

The computer would be throwing a code being it wouldn't be able to recognize the manual trans. I'd run a hydraulic clutch, and your right there would be a need for custom parts. But bolting on a t-56 doesn't seem to be to far out of an idea. Just takes some work. My LS is currently my only car so I won't be doing this anytime soon. Just wanted to stimulate some brains on this topic. Thanks for the input guys!

BTW XxbmxlsxX, I like your wheels, what are those?

WTF!! Why didn't I think of this earlier! The 05' and newer mustangs plateform was(loosely) based on the LS/S-type and may have used the same shifter linkage! I've just been looking at some pictures of the short/sport shifters for the 05' newer mustangs and they look promising from what I recall when I was under my car checking that stuff out. It was a month ago though so I'll have to get back under there and see. The good news is that my brother has an 07' v6 mustang that I can use for reference.

Oh man I'm excited!

2000-2002 Use the 5R55N and 2003-2006 use the 5R55S, but different bellhousings and electronics. It's been said in other threads the electronics are the biggest issue, not the mechanics of the swap.

correct. the fad is what costs money, the electronics makes it a non-starter until you know you can get by it.

SCT seem to think that they have the capability to make about ant kind of change that might be necessary when working on an AJ engine/5R55-type trans.

Has SCT made a tune for anyone? Besides the one that comes with the tuner? If Torrie said he could for sure make one I would feel better about it, but thats because me managed to make a tune for the only working Supercharged LS, so in my book he's the one to be able to do it.

I guess we'll never know until someone actually does it lol. If I had a garage capable of doing such things, not to mention the time and $$$ for the new trans, I'd be all over it.

I'm sure SCT could reverse engineer the PCM further if they wanted to - and could actually do this. The question is why? someone pay them a lot of money to do a project or they see a market for it.... (unlikely)

sct wont "make" you a tune. they come with a few off the shelf tunes but you have to take your sct device to a tuner and they will make a new tune if you want a custom one also. there are no tunes out of the box for my ls because of the manual tranny so it was custom tuned. at least there wasnt any back then. just gotta find a good sct tuner in your area, im sure torrie could ive heard good things about his sct ls knowledge.

I know, but someone had said that SCT felt that they could program or tune past the issues with putting a Manual Trans in a V8 LS. That is why I asked, if someone had a tune from them, besides the "off the shelf" one.

if stick shift LS8 ever happens.. I will regret so bad having a 6 lol
