Transmission noise?

I had this noise today, it sounded like i was driving across "grooved" pavement. It seemed to happen at about 1k rpm, between gears.
Does this sound like the dreaded "torque converted shutter"?

Yes. Mine did the same thing.

Change your transmission fluid & filter. Make sure you drain the torque converter as well.

You'll want to use Mercon V fluid and put a bottle of Lubeguard in there too.

When I changed mine, I added a finned aluminum Ford Racing trans pan that holds 2 quarts more fluid AND has a drain plug. I never wanted to have to deal with a pan with no drain plug again and figured I might as well upgrade while I was at it. I bought mine from http://www.adtr.net/shop.php?page=drivetrain He mostly does Crown Vic / Grand Marquis stuff but some of the parts (trans pan included) are universal among ford vehicles.
