I have a 2001 V8 Lincoln LS and have tranny problems. The reverse does not work and the transmission will not shift automatically. If I put it in any gear on the auto side, I can hear it engage but when I hit the gas, it just revs. If I pull the shifter down to drive then over to the SST, it drives fine as long as I use SST to shift. Going from 2nd to 3rd it will pause a bit longer then shifting into other gears, but upshift and downshift, it seems to do fine. I would live with it as is, if I had reverse.

I have noticed if I try any gear on the auto side and then try to go to SST, it doesn't work. I have to avoid attempting to try to accelerate while in any auto gear (R, D, etc) before sliding the shifter over to SST. Like I said, I can hear and feel it engage in all the auto gears, but as soon as I accelerate, it slips out or something because it just revs. I know I need to get to the shop, but was hoping to find out if anyone else has had this problem to has had to remedy it.

I know.. I really didn't feel like going into shopkey AGAIN... I can't copy and paste from there.. I have to write it all out..

Just happen to me today I put it in sst2 turn off traction control held the brakes in till the tires started to spin and now everything works. knock on wood. let me know if it worked for you or what you find out. Thanks Mark shaq2323@hotmail.com

Sonnax part #56947J-S1, "Spring, 4-3 pre-stroke valve" for transmission model 5R55N
I think its a sticky valve or a broken spring.

Please help!!!

Could be the shifter.

It show its fine and shows the gears on the lcd screen but when you put in d5 it just won't go you have to manually shift gears

That's not an LCD. It's vacuum fluorescent, big difference.
Pinkfloydoh only ever posted once on here, and that was over four years ago. I doubt he will be answering.

What do you mean the shifter???

I had a similar issue years ago. It seemed a diode in the shifter burned out and wouldn't allow selecting D4, but did allow the other gears. I caught it early enough that it was a warranty repair.

I'm just trying to figure out what's wrong with it, I can feel it go into gear but it's like the torque converter is not engaging like it should but it works fine if you manually shift it

Same issue on mine right now.... Just pulled the pan and found fine metal shavings in the filter and on the pan magnet. Time for a new transmission for me :(

How hard of a job is it to pull the trans?

Same here I pulled my pan off the other night and sure enough a bunch of tiny metal shavings... I'm still looking for what can cause my problems in trying to fix it cheaply and with ought having to pull out the whole transmission!

From what Ive read..... It can be a lot of things unfortunately. I can get a used trans for under $100 around here from the junk yard. Ill be pulling the pan for a good inspection before bringing it home though

Where are you located? The cheapest I can find around here is about 200 and that's with me pulling the transmission myself. And on your post about such transmissions would work what did you find out? If mine is just the regular shift will the slap shift hook right up and work fine or what would I need to do?

We have a Pull A Part in Nashville Tn as well as an Express Pull and save in Lebanon TN and Lavergn TN. They are like grocery stores for parts, lol. You do have to pull your own part.

Dont know if you have one around you.

I know the first gen is a 5r55n. They changed to s w and e I think in the later models. someone correct me if Im wrong

Yes I live very close to tn we have a lkq pull apart and it's almost 200 after everything. And any idea on how hard it is to pull?

If you can go to pull a part go there. Its like $93 tax and all at express pull and save. Pull a part is like $5 cheaper but further from me
