Hey y'all I own a 1994 mark viii and the lade and I live in Ohio and we just took a vacation to Gatlinburg tn. Just arriving to the destination my transmission goes out. Took it in the next day to a local transmission shop got her rebuilt in two days. Got home fine but the reverse is not working at all ? Need some insight if any ! Buddie and I are going to be working on it this weekend just thought extra opinion couldn't hurt. . . Thanks Cory

Cory, not trying to pry into your business or financial situation but how much did it cost you to have that particular transmission rebuilt? Also, did they include a list of the parts that were replaced in that transmission?

Your OK it cost $2176.19 You name it I thought they did it I thought. Ticket says recondition trans $1250,converter $99,speed sensor $35, Epc solenoid $49,MLPS $37 , Then fluid plus tax plus taking it out and reinstalling ! ! ! Hey I know that I got taken but i cant really take the time and bring my car back down there and if I did do I really trust the guys work . . .

That's enough to buy another Mark. If you have someone that will help you, try to find a 98 trans from another Mark, if possible. Usually they can be found for $250 to $400. Just make sure it is known to be good and shoot for low miles. 50K to 100Kat the most.

Remove the pan, swap out the electrical internal parts and install new front and rear seals. Buy the 2 gaskets that are needed for the J-Mod, right around $6.00 + shipping from Maxx ---------> His ad is over on the right.

Remove the current trans after draining first and work with both of them while they're upside down. Makes things quicker and easier.

I can send you some simple and easy to read instructions for a J-Mod and you can drill the holes yourself. All of the modifications I'm mentioning right now to the 98 trans can be done in maybe just over an hour. The electrical internal swap is very simple too, 30 to 45 min.

Change the front and rear seals last and then install the 98 trans. Some people on here will spend the money and rebuild 93 - 97 trans but it's a waste in the long run and as you see, for the short run. Once you have a 98+ trans in with a J-Mod, you will see a huge difference. That's my suggestion and I wouldn't put another dime into what they say they rebuilt. I'd work on getting some of that money back.

Wow they took you for a ride. I wish I knew enough about the trans to give you sound advice, but I don't. Good luck bud.

If you've had the trans rebuilt with all new hardware, and still having probs, then you've prob got crap electronics

take it right back where you had the work done immediately. Could be something simple like the mlps being out of adjustment or more than likely they messed up.

The reverse worked fine before. I don't have the time now to take it down there or I would I was on vacation at the time. i live 400 plus miles from the shop ! ! !

I would have to agree that it's something simple such as the MLPS being out of adjustment but for that much money, it should have left there without issues. Being so far away from them, I would do something about getting money returned or if they are a stand up shop, they should come to you and make it right or at least recommend for you to take it to another shop and pay the cost of what they didn't get right.

Did they give any kind of warranty on the work? Is it a big well known shop or just some mom and pop shop? If they are a bigger, well known shop like Aamco then you might be in luck and they might own a shop closer to you. Id at least give them a call and talk to them about it. Id talk to them about covering the cost of having it towed to them to get it fixed. After spending that much money you better believe I would at least be calling them.

Yes it is a small shop and yes I have a year warranty on it. . .How about this yall the guy called me today and said he is sending two guy to pick it up how about that. Thanks for every ones reply .

Wow, that's amazing...it'd be cheaper (and easier) for them to just allow you to get someone locally to fix it and they pay for it, what are you doing for a car while they take it 400 miles away to fix it? That sounds a little weird to me-they are also gonna put 800 miles on your car, I'd think about this whole thing if it were me...

Id imagine theyll probably be towing it there and back? That's sweet they are sticking by their warranty so well though. Congrats and good luck with getting it back soon!

i hope you get your baby well taken care off but what about a rental . how you gonna get around in the mean time lol.

this is why i went out today and bought a low mile 98 trans and its either gonna get a j mod or a recal kit from bec tire of messing around with 97 or older i hope this 98 makes the difference.

You'll love it. The modifications are too simple to do once you get inside and see what's going on. Let me know when you get ready to do the swap and pm me your email address and I'll send you the exact easy directions. Not the TCCOA bull:q:q:q:q.
