My 96 mark 8 has had a good transmission . This months I finally found and replaced an IMRC .I passed e-check and now am legal. However the transmission fluid had some shavings clinging to the transmission dip stick. This week as I pulled into Walgreens I heard it shudder doing less than 10 mph. Today as I slowed for a red light I heard IT LIGHTLY SHUDDER AT ABOUT 10 M,PH./ tHE CAR IDLES AT 1500 RPM AND DOSEN'T DROP DOWN TO 1000 RPM UNTILL THE CARS STOPED FOR 5 TO 10 SECONDS. I SUSPECT ITS THE Idle AIR CONTROLL VALVE .IS THIS HARD ON THE TRANSMISSION AS I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE REPLACED??? TODAY I PURCHASED 13 QTS CASTROL MERCON 5 AND A MOTORCRAFT FILTER. TO TRY NIPPING THE SHUDDER IN THE BUD. ANY SUGGESTIONS AS TO IF THIS WILL SAVE THE TRANSMISSION ALONG WITH A NEW iacv WILL BE APPRECIATED.

Yes drop the pan and change the filter. Also turn the torque convertor around to find the drain plug in it, and drain it. That should take care of any shudder. I would check closely for any vacuum leaks causing the high idle, before tackling the pain in the ass iac. vacuum tee next to throttle body is a common one, as is the imrc actuators.

Thanks for the help. I did exactly as you said. I found the shudder only happened when car was idling with the a/c on and went away when a/c went off.
