Help please...

2001 Lincoln LS V8. After coming to a stop yesterday When I tried to go all i heard was the engine winding and I wasn't moving at all. After sitting for a few minutes I tried the SST and it worked fine. So now the car only moves using the SST. Does anybody know why this would happen??? Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like a broken shifter. The shifter controls the transmission electronically. I had a diode go bad years ago and I couldn't engage D4. There could also be a small piece of dirt/lint/gunk on the contacts.

So is this something I can fix or do I have to take it to the stealership???

As long as it's the shifter you should be able to do it. I would have an official (dealer) diagnosis, though.

When you put it in drive, does it display D5 or D4 on the instrument panel?

I would guess it's a transmission or computer problem then, not the shifter itself. But who knows!
