It's also a horrible thing for the auto industry.
In principle, it's completely reasonable for each state to make these determinations on their own. But in an era where states are losing power, this is a bad place to start giving it back to them.
The last thing Detroit needs is 20 different state standards to meet when building cars. As if the 49 state compliant car wasn't bad enough.
