As we all know, I just had two coils replaced. Of course, that fixed the problem for a day, then it returned very slowly. But that I can deal with, as I'm ordering new coils tomorrow to finish the replacement of all eight. This is completely unrelated.
I noticed the normal oil stain on the driveway yesterday looked a little bigger. Sadly, I didn't get a chance to look at the car until this evening. Looked from the top, no signs of oil. Good thing. Get under the car, and there it is. Coolant, dripping from the frame just behind the driver side front wheel. Hmmm.......
So I pull the inner fender cover, and found the leak. At the hose coming from the bottom of the coolant resivoir, that clamped connection right there. Unfortunately, there's NO way to get to it without removing the wiper blades, cowling, brake master cylinder, and brake power booster.
So, I a moment of complete idiocy or genius, I looked at the two holes where I could see the bottom of the resevoir, and made the decision. Tomorrow, I'm cutting a panel out so I can fix it. Then I'm tracking down the designer of that little fiasco and smacking him.
I figure it will be ok, considering there's nothing but loomed wires or protected coolant lines there (and a couple of fuel lines).
this is getting out of hand with this car. I'm sooooo tempted to just sell it and get a used Grand Prix GTP like my buddy has. yeah, it's a step down, but he's had absolutely no trouble with it.
Oh, and to top it off, while my car was in the dealership getting the coils done, the service manager said "too bad you didn't buy this from a ford dealer. This car is a certified vehicle, and had a transferrable 100K mile warranty that's bumper to bumper." Dammit. Anyone think I can track down the previous owner and work that out?? lol
