United Airlines Song Background (short version)

In the spring of 2008, Sons of Maxwell were traveling to Nebraska for a one-week tour and my Taylor guitar was witnessed being thrown by United Airlines baggage handlers in Chicago. I discovered later that the $3500 guitar was severely damaged. They didn’t deny the experience occurred but for nine months the various people I communicated with put the responsibility for dealing with the damage on everyone other than themselves and finally said they would do nothing to compensate me for my loss. So I promised the last person to finally say “no” to compensation (Ms. Irlweg) that I would write and produce three songs about my experience with United Airlines and make videos for each to be viewed online by anyone in the world. United: Song 1 is the first of those songs. United: Song 2 has been written and video production is underway. United: Song 3 is coming. I promise.

if you ever watched concert footage of the Who it's pretty damn hard to break a guitar, epically if it's in a hard shell case

Those boys can actually play and sing pretty well. I might have to go find some more of their music...

Pete Townshend is a pussy.

I hate watching people smash instruments.
It's offensive. And I always consider the guy doing it to be an ass, especially when it's done now. It was a little different 40 years ago.

And Sons of Maxwell are a very talented Canadian group.

i have seen an Yngwie Malmsteen concert where at the end of his set it looks like they get a stand in guitar for him to smash

That makes sense.
A quality instrument is a precision work of art.

It's a cheap stunt smashing an instrument, it's unoriginal, and I just think it disrespects the art of music and the art of instrument making at the same time. Such an act deserves a quick kick to the nuts.

That is so wrong it isn't funny! I am a guitarist and I know how much a beating like the one I saw gives to an instrument (flight cases not withstanding). Especially when we are talking about $3,000+ pieces of equipment. Any little thing can throw a guitar off. Sorry about the rant.

Airlines and guitars just dont mix! The baggage monkeys have no respect for your property! If they are not tossing stuff around like a sack of potatoes they are looking through your luggage looking to steal.
