As stated in my previous thread, I've recently purchased an 03 LS Ultimate (I believe this is what it is referred to as). I found an update for the navigation which is from navteq....long story short Ive briefly looked in the trunk for dvd and didnt see it, could you guys tell me where its located (must be funky spot) and if youve done this before?

I planned on burning my own dvd of the new navteq map version and wondered if anyone has done this and if it worked without glitches or errors,

thanks

Top left of the rear deck... (when facing into the trunk from the back of the car)

There should be a slit in the carpet cover for it.... You must not have looked very hard?

lol weathers been sh*t here in ohio last few days def didnt look hard. I expected a visible dvd unit. I read somewhere it was supposed to be near power distribution box or w.e... i glanced up top didnt see it earlier.

thanks tho...any experience with different map versions being easily swappable or is the navigation version touchy?

Mine is a 2004... I think the stock NAV is garbage TBH. I use my phone for GPS anyways.

I hate the outdated graphics of the stock unit, I am sort of just stalling until I can get an aftermarket unit.

I feel the same way, thats why I downloaded the newest navteq map available in hopes it would improve it in someway.

While we are on that topic though off the top of your head do you kno of any nice units that conveniently swap the stock unit (same size)?

lol its def a lil prehistoric. I hit a lot of areas where info is not avail........you'd think they'd have a more upgradable setup on a nav sys....

Yea it doesn't fit the car... It is not that old of a vehicle, yet the graphics make the interior look like sh!t. Not sure what they were thinking with it... I mean at least make it white on black, not grey and pale yellow.

Do you know if you are able to link the voice command button on the steering wheel with aftermarket nav units like the pioneer avics?

My dvd unit is in the center, not to the left.

I believe that you need to buy an adapter.. It doesn't cost that much and may come with the unit.. Idk.. I know it doesn't cost more than 40.. Someone will link you to it..

same here.

Only reason i still have it is cause i like the steering wheel controls and 6 disc changer. But the AVIC is calling my name....

Out of sheer curiosity, can that dvd unit be modified to play dvd movies?

It would be cheaper and better to go aftermarket.

No, not from the DVD map unit. There is an adapter that you can buy that would let you put video from a DVD player up on the screen. I don't think that it would look too good on the low res, low color screen.

I have it. It actually looks decent, better than I expected. The colors aren't perfect but it get the job done. Plus it keep everything looking stock which was the original intention.

Playing hitch from my ipod. This was before I found out it had a button on the control to balance the colors automatically. I was trying to do it manually, but I kept messing it up. The colors look better now.

Alax, where are you plugging the Ipod in at? And how would I find where to connect? Is there an aux. plug in the back of nav unit or do you have to take cord from dvd unit and split?

Ipod interface to get cd quality sound from the ipod goes behind the nav.I ran the ipod cable down from the nav, in the center console. The video interface goes in the dvd map player. I ran rca wires from the video interface, up into the center console where the ipod is. I play movies from the ipod to the video interface which displays it on the nav screen, the sound is played through the speakers through the ipod interface.
