I'm currently shopping for an early 80's TC or MK vi 4 door (low miles - for a great example hit this link:

These cars are WONDERFUL but run terribly - I'm an ex Ford reliability engineer and we could never get the central fuel injected and/or variable venturi cars to stop trailer hitching, idling poorly and or just running poorly.... and that was when they were NEW.
I need advice on buying an intake manifold that will accept a modern aftermarket carburetor - probably 4 barrel so I can tune it precisely. A "popular" setup is what I'm looking for - so I can ebay the manifold and save huge $. Even an older Ford 302 manifold will be fine, if you know a setup that clears the hood and will allow the installation of a modern aftermarket carburetor.
Anyone have any experience with this type of upgrade?
