just out of curiosity, would anyone be interesed in buying a 5-speed from a v6? there's a guy locally that's selling a 5-speed v6 lincoln ls and i was considering buying it for some parts then parting the rest out... if anyone would be interested in buying the getrag 221 let me know and i'll buy it and part it out to you guys :D

also, has anyone ever swapped the 5-speeds differential into an auto for better mpg's on the highway? just curious :p

the manual has a 3.07:1 final gear ratio while the auto has a 3.58:1

no body has any input of the the gear swap for the back? i know car will feel more sluggish coming off the line but i do a lot of highway driving and was thinking about doing this to an auto

not that i have ever seen, kinda the exact opposite of what everybody wants and talks about on here.

I know if i did own a manual LS, that would be the first thing i would be switching out, putting the taller gears on the manual should only make it more fun to drive!!!

i appreciate the thought and idea with the gears... but you CANT part out or take apart a v6 5 speed!!!! there was only like 3000 of them made. buy it and drive it, youll want to keep it :)

how much is he asking? i was looking at the link you posted but i couldnt find the 5spd

There were 2331 manuals made. I would expect that it would be very slow with that gear ratio in the back. The first gear ratio in the getrag 221 is 4.23:1 the auto is around 3.25:1. That's a big difference in first gear. The fifth gear in the 221 is 1:1 versus .75:1. The automatic ratios changed a bit but you get the idea. You would be turning about 15% fewer revs in top gear. I don't think the hit in acceleration would be worth it to change your cruise from about 2500 to 2200? You would have to get the ratios in your car and do the math to get the exact figures but it woudn't seem worth it to me. The engineers used those ratios for a reason, they could put whatever they wanted in there, it was a clean slate for them.

i like the input, but mpg wise, going down to 2200 on a long highway trip would be wayy more efficient at 70mph, in the end i didnt buy the car but maybe its a good thing, the seats were crap, car had a million dents and a crappy paint job

I have a 2001 LS parts car for sale 144000 miles, spun a crank berring, it ran and shifed great, its for sale in Michigan 1200 bucks and it can be toted off!! let me know if anyone is looking for a stock replacement or for a swappertunity.
