I've got a gen2 v6 and I'm trying to find the EGR valve... I've been searching for days to no avail. The workshop manuals dont seem to show its location either.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Sure it does. Page 303-01A-20 has a nearly full page drawing of it. It looks like a normal EGR valve. It should be hard to miss. Near the front of the engine on the passenger side of the intake manifold.

Its attached to the intake manifold right in front, if you look at the intake behind the throttle body, its attached right where the intake curves towards the back, there should be a pipe attached to it that runs beside the engine and curves downward at the firewall to attach to the exhaust

Just to clarify, are you talking about a second gen v6? I've got a shop manual for a 2005 and there is nothing in there for the v6, only the v8. I can't find Page 303-01A-20.

Spent another hour following all vacuum lines, this thing is hidden pretty well if it's even there... I've got a feeling they changed it's placement on Gen2 cars.

Thanks.

It's not hidden at all! It's right there in the open. There's no way you can't see it.
Yes, a 2nd gen manual (2004 to be exact). The V6 is not in the 2006 manual, because there was no V6 in 2006. It's there, section 303-01A is for the V6 only.

Here it is circled in red...

You're going to love when I send you a picture of mine hahaha. Not there!!! :D

Then someone removed it. There will be some sort of plate bolted (two bolts) to the manifold where the valve would be. I assume that you have a check engine light and codes for EGR flow, MAP sensor, and other related issues. This likely would explain your pinging.

That's my issue... I believe they moved it on later model Gen2 cars, and I can't for the life of me find it. I'm having some serious pinging / spark knock on acceleration and am having a difficult time diagnosing it. I've changed the plugs, cleaned the MAF, now attempting to inspect / clean the EGR valve before buying coils. I can get Motorcraft ones from Rock Auto for pretty cheap (considering I live in Canada, roughly $260). The car idles perfectly and has no codes

Here is my engine bay, no EGR on the front :/

2004 must be different from 2005... i have no idea where my egr valve is but i havent really looked. Its def not in the spot Joegr posted and my CEL is not on and i have no egr codes at all.. i have one but where ? its a mystery

Or, maybe they somehow eliminated the EGR valve on the 2005 V6? There doesn't seem to be a listing for 2005 for the V6 EGR valve.

but did the SVT have it every year except the last year with that motor?

Hard to believe a modern car doesn't have an EGR valve... It's kind of integral to the emissions. Rock Auto stocks one.. Shows Motorcraft p/n 5W4Z9D475AA

...

My 325i has no EGR valve. Are you sure that your BMW has one? (I see no mention of EGR in the F10 forum.)

See if you can find a stainless steel line in the right side exhaust manifold and then follow it to find the EGR valve, if one is found.

The emissions sticker (under the hood?) use to tell what equipment was on the engine.

in the mid 90s, ATX SHOs had EGR, and MTX SHOs did not.

but the auto SHO's had a slightly different and larger 3.2 engine than the manual 3.0, so its really not nearly as odd for the engines to have different equipment vs a car with the same motor with different equipment the next year.
