Valet option on the LS

yes - Valet Key.

There is a Valet button in the glove box - that disables the trunk release - then you can lock the glove box with a regular key - protecting both your glove box and trunk. The Valet key only operates the driver's door lock and igintion.

Not all years though, right? 2003+ had the lock over the trunk release.

Thanks Quik for the info... I picked up a few NOS parts for the LS's and one was a valet button switch, but I have never seen an LS with this option. Tommorrow's 10cent listing day on ebay so I'm listing a few items and wanted to ensure the listings are correct. Thanks again, Don

correct - the 2003+ have a 'key lock' in the trunk release button itself that the non-Valet keys operate.

quick is right my 01 has the button but the 05 i had as a rent a car was a luck on the trunk release

My 02 doesnt have the button in the trunck

The valet button was dropped in early '02. Seems there were too many service calls when the owner pushed the button and then couldn't figure out why the trunk release didn't work. Our '01 had it and there was no indication if the valet feature was engaged or not.

That's what I had going on with my trunk for about a year, I pushed the damn button and forgot about it. I thought I messed up something when I was installing my right amplifier untill I figured out what was the problem.

is it possible to get a valet key for a 2000 LS? i'm trying to get one if possible

It should be possible -- they were available for your year I believe. The dealer is probably your best bet to find one easily. Its a gray key, and will probably have to be coded to work with the PATS system. Remember, it only starts the car, and unlocks the driver's side door.

Do you know if you can program a spare key using the valet key (and a normal one... or two valets lol)?

Yes. Which is why you should hang on to your valet key even if you don't ever plan to use it. That way if you loose one of the two regular keys that come with the car, you can re-program the PATS for the replacement key by yourself.

BTW, the only difference between the regular and valet keys (besides color) is that the valet one has shallower grooves cut into it. This makes it too thick to insert into the trunk, glovebox, and trunk release keyholes.

$25 for a valet key, for a 2000 LS, from the dealer, not programmed.

This is too funny. I have an '01 and would bet money this is why my button doesn't work! I'll have to give it a shot when I leave work today.
