i hooked my mark up to my buddies scanner and it says i have low mass air flow and this and that yadda yadda. so i went and picked up a mass air flow for 15$ from the local junkyard and its running better but still funky idle so yeah IAC is next but for giggles i go to check the compression and i have none at all on the first cylinder driver side! so im a little mad but start pulling the valve cover off only to get stuck half way off. can anyone tell me if i need to remove the fuse box or the master cylinder or whatever or what or do i need to pull the motor?

You mean you have NO compression on the #1 cyl, or is it just low?? Also, what procedure are you using to test for compression? I have a very hard time believeing that you have none at all, but i've seen crazier things.

A broken valve spring could cause low compression on a cylinder, and would still allow the engine to run due to the 4v design. To check this your gonna have to get the cam cover off and inspect the valves.

What is hitting when you try to remove the covers? Is it a bolt you missed?, there have been people who have missed some and thought it was an internal problem. I have never had a problem pulling either side in either of my 3 Marks.

Get back with us with better detail, and we may be able to help you out. If I lived closer to Chitown, I'd swing by and look at it for you.

alright its a 95 mark. i had ZERO compression when i hooked it up which i thought was wierd also. the only thing i could think of was that a valve spring broke which like you said the car would still run.(not well and could cause alot of internal damage)now when i came up with the zero i took out the compression gauge and tried again still zero. Soooo this leads me to pulling off the valve cover in which do i need to pull off all the hoses and wires that run past the cover or no leave them. plus after i wrote this i started pulling it off and the master cylinder rubs and so does the fuze box. fuze box is now removed and out of the way but the master cylinder lines are still rubbing along with the dip stick tube to i just muscle it out or disconnect all that. i would like to save as much time as possible with this whole process seeing as i work 2 jobs and go to school. any help would be appreciated

also i have a gauge that threads into the head where the spark plug resides so that would be my method.
