AP - Venezuela is considering selling its fleet of U.S.-made F-16 fighter jets to another country, perhaps Iran, in response to a U.S. ban on arms sales to President Hugo Chavez's government, a military official said Tuesday.

Hey Freefaller...

You see what the F-22A Raptor is capable of doing? Simply awesome.

They put it up against 5 - F16s in a dogfight. It took all 5 F16 guys down. Nobody ever saw the Raptor and nobody even fired a shot at it. The pilot flying the F-22 said it was so unfair it wasn't even funny.

Go ahead Chavez, sell the planes. We need the target practice anyway.

The F-16B's that good 'ol Hugo has are Block 15's...who gives a damn. We made over 900 of em and handed them out like candy. 1982 technology. I've got some Cessna 162's I'm trying to get rid of if they could find me a buyer...

Oh and Bryan...yeah, I've seen lot's of data on what the Raptor is capable of. Two of them have taken down (simulated of course) entire squadrons of legacy aircraft. It's only limitation is payload.

If Iran even has Jets, they are probably using some old Run down Migs anyways.

Sorry Pep, no vid.

I liked the interviews they did with the F-16 pilots. These weren't desk jockeys. The Air Force put their best up against this plane and it was a route. The pilots were saying they didn't know what hit them. They were lit up dead and then the Raptor guy would just zip on by.

Can't wait to see what these things do in a real Gulf War III.

Your right Steve, the only limitation the pilot said he had was the armament.

We have 12 of these babies in service now. Enough to rule the whole Middle East.

Come on Iran, make our day.

I'll bet the new F-35 JSF would smoke some F-15/16 a$$, too!

The Air Force ought a go down and do a little target practice on Megalo-Ass-Hat's F16s, just to keep things copaceitc. ;)

You want to see good vids Pepps? Go to www.af.mil and click on the TV link up top. When the window opens click AF COMMERCIALS and pick the CROSS INTO THE BLUE vid. They did a pretty good job with that one. Then check out the rest of the vids...there's tons of em.

That was a good vid Steve thanks for the link, i have bookmarked it so i can watch more of those vids. I would recommend that vid to any high school senior wanting to know about the Air Force.

As remarkable as the Raptor is, I do have to take issue with the roll out program. They are retiring far too many good planes and replacing them with F-22s. And I don't just mean F-16s or F-15s. I mean they are retiring squadrons of everything including B-52s and replacing them with the 22s. I know some airforce pilots who are outraged by this.

You can all have your F-22A Raptor. My favorite plane of all time is still the A-10 Thunderbolt aka Warthog. Just look at this badboy! I heard many of these were reconditioned and reinforced for continued service for ground support in Iraq.

Let me clear up a couple of misconceptions.

Actually, the B-52's have already been replaced by B-1's and B-2's. They really aren't effective enough against current AA tech and would be more of a danger to flight crews if they saw much combat.

The F-35 JSF will be replacing several aircraft in each branch of service:

Air Force: F-16, A-10
Navy: A-6, F-14
Marines: Harrier Jump Jet

The F-22 will be replacing the F-15.

Keep in mind that this will be happening gradually over the next decade or so. But a larger debate is what the true mission is. Remember that in the 50's and 60's we didn't put a lot of tech into fighters, b/c the govt thought we should focus on bombers to counter the Soviet nuclear threat. Now that we have B-2's with smart weapons and SSMs with pinpoint accuracy, the question is: What's the mission?

I think there might be some truth to the school of thought that the Raptor was designed to see how awesome a fighter we could build, instead of building it for a specific mission, which is exactly why and how the F-15 was designed. Nevertheless, it IS an awesome fighter, and I doubt we would suffer significant losses in any real air campaign.

The F-35, on the other hand, is a plane specifically designed for real mission and purpose. It is designed to share 80% of its parts across all three services, differing only in Navy (larger fuel tank, tailhook) and Marine (VTOL capability) versions. This makes it cost effective to build, and the planes it replaces had specific roles, so it will fit right in to those roles.

The A-10 is a baaad MoFo. My stepson is an A-10 mechanic. I've got some great photos.

Post them if you can.

I love seeing footage of the nose gun going off.
