I have an aftermarket cd player in my 2000 lincoln ls (v6) and i cant use the radio controls on the steering wheel.
i know there is some sort of connector i can buy that will connect the aftermarket deck to the steering wheel so that I can still use the controls on the s.wheel.
what is it called? where do i find it? how much are they?

has anyone ever installed one and is it complicated?

any helpful replies/links would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

from what I have read here. there is a lot of lag 2 or 3 seconds worth when you use the connector. I do not recall the manuf or name of the device though. But satisfaction with the product seemed low.

think i just read this post on another forum..lol.. Well crutchfield sells them. I think its manufactured from PAC interface kits. If you give them a call they will have one for sure. They cost 70 bucks i believe. I haven't heard of any complaints with the delay yet. hope thats not true. Oh and an update on my double din people for those who was interested, Eclipse said they will be shipping out the headunits this week or next. I will definately post some pics for those who were wondering also if a double din will fit in the ls. So far i think its looking good... just hope that the speed sensor wire isn't going to be hard to find to hook up to this thing..

what is it you are hooking up.

It a double din dvd navigational unit with gps and a built in gryoscope. I was told you need to hook it up to the speed sensor wire for like when you going in tunnels and such where satelite can get to the gps and thats what the gyroscope and speed sensor is for i guess. calculates where you are while there isn't a signal for the gps, in real time. pretty neat little machine if i can ever get my hands on it.. lol

I was an Eclipse dealer when they came out with thier first indash flip out screen. I put in an order for two and paid for it by credit card. They led me on for four months and finally refunded my money saying they were out of stock. My customers were pissed at me becouse they saw people with the units at shows who had just purchased them within the week directly from eclipse. It pretty much boiled down to the fact that they already had my money.
Eclipse has some awsome equipment but their customer service had some issues.
This was in the mid to late 90's so hopefully you won't have this problem.

YA i'm hoping too. I've pretty much have stuck with eclispe since i started stereos comps and such. Ever since they had the vacuum flourecent lighting. After that i only had one other head unit i bought in .. 98 i think was the 5303R which was awesome. I have never had problems with eclipse. after 4 years had the dodge worked on and for some reason it wouldn't accept my key cd so i sent it in to get it fixed and when they sent it back it was a brand new 5303R. They rebuilt the whole thing new face, buttons, rca outs, i just think it was a new one for free i didn't have to pay for it. just shipping to get it there. I can't remember the model number right off hand, when the dealer was showing me the 2005 models was more interested in what they changed from 2004. But the 2004 model was the avn2454, there is a new model that replaces it and this year they put the volume buttons on the right side, on the driver side. Last year they had em on the passenger side of the head unit.. Don't ask me..lol

I had a 5303 in my vehilce for a few months. It was a very nice piece. I can't remember what they changed for the 5303R.

a FEW months.?? I just sold that head unit a few weeks ago on ebay. Been in my car for geez.. let me count the years..lol.. 6 or 6 years.. I'm one who thinks if its wins then and its still winning now.. don't change it..lol

When you sell car audio and have your pick of the stock, you change your head whenever someone wants to buy it.
With markup at almost 50% on equipment and 100% on labor it was worth getting a new unit every couple months. :Beer
For the right amount of money you'll sell just about anything.

Heres the Part number for the PAC from crutchfield #127swix, I have one in my 01 lincoln took about 20 minutes to install and set up. Cost is $69.99 and I don't hazve any delays that are noticable anyways. Hope it helps.

This may be somewhat off the topic, but I didn't buy an Eclipse CD player because they were about the only ones who didn't support MP3 4 years ago. I had an one of their tape decks a long time ago and it still works well. Do they make a unit that will handle MP3 now?

lol.. ya.. Geez i was playing burned cds on my cd player that was 6 years old when they came out with cd burners. almost every other aftermarket cd player had to make their headunits compatible. Which tells me the eclipse was already putting high end lasers in there head units to be able to read burned discs. It wasn't until everyone was getting cd burners and such that all the other companies had to change their laser lens to read burned ones. And also a side note.. Eclipse finally joined the digital satelite radio frenzy.. They signed on with sirius which should be pretty nice to now have that option on their new head units.

I'm not sure if they do or not. With eclipse its more about sound quality then quantity. Bad thing about mp3 are terrible bitrates cause most people burn like at 128 or whatever then you end up with horrible compression. If i burn a cd a will generally record in wav. format so compression isn't as bad. You end up with 30 mgbyte files for each song but thats just the way i do it.. I must say though since my ipod i think apple has a lot better compression than any other format, i will probably stick to them if i use burned music.

I have an Alpine now that does MP3, and it's a nice unit. I just haven't put it in the LS yet... I have stuff from 128 to 320, and what's strange is that some of my 128 stuff doesn't sound all that bad. Then there are some that are horrible... Even at 256.
