I have a 2000 Lincoln LS V8 and recently have been getting 'low washer fluid indicator message'. I topped up the washer fluid, but the message doesn't go away. I took it into the dealer and he indicated that the sensor was bad and to replace it I need to get the whole washer container. Is there any way I can eliminate the sensor (eg. keep it disconnected) in order to eliminate getting the message each time I start my car ?

I hate do bring an old thread back to life but has anyone tried to connect the wires? Does this work?

Ok so I spliced the 2 wires together and it DOES NOT work lol.

Time to buy a new sensor I guess.

Do you get the low warning with the wires just disconnected as well? If so, it sounds like it is not the sensor. I'm pretty sure the sensor is just an on or off switch. (I don't know off hand if open (off) or closed (on) indicates low level.) It could be the wiring or the instrument panel.

Yeah first I unplugged the sensor and it still gave the low fluid warning.

Okay, I looked it up. (On a 2006) With the circuit open (wires not connected together or to the switch), it should not show low fluid level. The service manual shows how to test if the problem is the wiring harness or the FEM.

Look at pinpoint test step F4

I don't have a gen I car or manual, so I don't know. I would assume that the odds are a little better than 50/50 that it is the same.
