Drove the LS today on some errands. First start was normal, Then when second startup was done, car started up fine, but no dash lights or A/C. Shut car off, then restarted vehicle and all was OK. Other day, similar scenario, but this time vehicle would not crank and PATS light blinked. Second attempt was, once again, successful. Extremely hot weather here, but car has been hee for 4 years with no electrical issues. Any suggestions would be helpful as to where to start looking. Thanks in advance. Checked battery voltage and it was 12.2v.

The first episode, the PATS lamp blinked only once.

Any idea how old the battery is? I've had batteries in the past that seemed fine voltage wise, until I tried to start the car. The LS uses alotta juice, and the extra heat might be pushing it too much. I could always be wrong tho

Good suggestion. The battery is approx 3 years old. Just a simple static check with multimeter gave a 12.2 reading, but that is without a load on it. I think maybe that a purchase of a battery analyzer would be warranted to do a load test in it, The heat down here does a number on vehicle systems. Three years is about the limit for batteries. Will see what Harbor Freight has in stock. I'll post results.

You have to wait a little while, then it should start flashing out a two digit code.

12.2 volts is a very discharged or weak battery.

This is not much to go on so far. If it is not the battery (@ 12.2V there's a good chance that it is the battery or the alternator), then the REM would be my next suspect.

Took battery to Autozone today to have it checked. Noticed that one side of case was slightly bulged out. Also some white residue around several of the vent caps. Battery tested out at 69% charged- not great, but their tester said it was just undercharged, not bad. They put it on their charger and will test it again later today. I still have my doubts about it being good. Started shopping around for possible replacement. Believe it or not, the best deal is from the Ford dealer for a BXT-66 -750 Motorcraft.

Oh, I very much believe it.
Just got back from Autozone. After charge test- battery passed state of charge and cranking health BUT failed reserve capacity test-bad battery. will replace with Motorcraft on Monday. Thanks to those who responded with advice.
