Hello guys. It seems that fixing the LS is like a game a whack a mole. Everytime work gets done another problem pops up.

Last week just had two window regulators replaced. Was feeling good and the car was riding well. Two days ago, the car started giving me concern when starting.

When I start the car and it turns over, a loud noise eminates from the enginge. The engine starts to "vroom" but is interuppted by a weird noise similiar to when you vaccum up change from the floor.

Car has also been idling a little high the past two days but nothing crazy. Other than the starting noise a slightly weak accelertation the car rides without any problems.

Note, I do a ton of highway driving as I live far away from work and I mostly use cruise control. Today, I decided to not use cruise control at all during the drive. I wanted to push the car a bit. The car seemed to accelerate much better while driving today. So I have two questions:

1) Any idea on what the noise could be? Fuel pump? Starter?

2) Am I crazy in thinking overusing cruise control could lead to poor car performance?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

My opinion : Change your coils. The cruise control drives using very little acceleration (unless going up a steep hill), and with very minor acceleration your more likely to notice a misfire than you would stomping on the gas.

1) It may well be the starter. Can you post an audio clip of the noise? If you turn the key to start for just part of a second and release it, do you get a similar noise even though the engine doesn't start? I think that maybe the starter gear isn't disengaging quickly enough from the flywheel (okay, flexplate) gear.

2) You may or may not be crazy. How would I know? Using the cruise control does not lead to poor car performance. I wish more people would use it. It's annoying to have to dodge people who can't decide what speed they want to go.

Just throwing this out there too, maybe the cat is making the rattling noise from running bad coils for a while? I haven't had a bad cat yet, but on other cars I have had, the cat would rattle pretty loudly on start up when it went bad.

I will try to post an audio clip tonight (if I can figure out how to do it). If I turn the key to start for a second and released it would not make the noise.

Certainly possible. Really with the LS, changing all the coils and plugs should always be the first step.

Well I cannot post the audio recording because I am technologically impaired but I did manage to find a youtube video of a car that makes the same noise.

Is the starter the problem? Should I replace the solenoid as well? If so does that come with the starter? I looked on Tasca and they only seem to sell the starter, I could not find the solenoid?

The solenoid is part of the starter. The replacement starter will come with it.
