If I engage drive with the brake on, I hear a very quiet, sort of rythmic "thump" sound.....i am wondering what this could be? Car runs fine, no issues at all....

could it be your abs or traction control engaging for some reason? Try turning your traction control off and see what happens.

hmm - i hadn't thought of that. the weird thing is, it doesn't happen in park or neutral, just in d with the brake on - i was trying to figure out what kind of noise would present itself under load...

Man, I have a 94' with the EXACT same problem. I haven't found out much other than it does not effect my car whatsoever. I can't stand hearing the noise anymore so please share any info you get on that problem and I will be certain to do the same.

Edit: My noise is for sure coming from the front of the car... but I can't figure out where. I'm also pretty sure, damn near 100% sure actually, that this noise started after I put a 98' trans in my car. I've been worried it has something to do with the TC, so if anyone knows what the TC is doing different in P and N that would explain why it makes this noise from 1-2-D-OD and even sometimes in R.

When you hear this noise, have you tried applying a little more throttle with your foot on the brake? just enough to stress the drivetrain harder, but not spint the tires. I'm wondering if it's not something loose "quivering" under load.

Kinda stumped....my first thought would be Traction Control. I dont know if ABS would activate unless under moton.

I have done this... the noise goes away.

since the sound comes mostly from the engine compartment, i think i can rule out the traction control - also, since the brake is engaged, i don't think the tcs would come on.

Ok, I have tested my car to see when it does and when it doesn't make that sound.

Does:
-Stopped, in gear, with my foot on the break pedal.

Doesn't:
-Stopped, in gear, with my foot on the break pedal and slightly push down the acceleration.
-Any time I'm not stopped.
-No noise in Park or Nuetral.

Along with the noise that 67Continental and I experience, I also experience excessive vibration under the same conditions as the noise. Also, the vibration goes away the same time the noise does. The vibration feels like its right under my butt and the noise sounds like its coming from right in front of me, deffinetly somewhere in the engine compartment. When I am driving my car everything is fine and dandy. Smooth, nice shifts, you would never know.

Anybody have any idea what this problem is? I am guessing its TC but I really am no expert. Please, any suggestions would be very appreciated.

i also did the same tests, with the same results - except for the excessive vibration, doesn't happen for me.

I am tempted to conclude it's a "normal" sound for a 94.

I don't think this could possibly be normal. This was never an issue until I blew my original tranny and put a 98' in there. I believe that my tranny is "ok with issues," issues that I would like to take care of. The vibration isn't terrible, in fact I doubt anyone other than myself notices it, but its more vibration than it used to have, again, if any of you have good info please, share.
