So I often open the trunk with the remote. Take care of my business, then the alarm goes off while trunk is open. Is this norm or am I needing to fix something?

Not normal. Every great once in a while, I manage to confuse mine and set it off. For me, the sequence seems to be:
1. Arm alarm and wait a while.
2. Open the trunk (with the remote) - get something out or put something in.
3. Attempt to close the trunk, but don't get it completely latched closed.
4. Alarm goes off as trunk lid opens back up.

I think it closes enough for the system to think it is locked back down again, then the alarm is triggered when the trunk open switch triggers as it reopens. In your case, I wonder if your trunk switch is getting flaky?

Ya I dont even get to the point of an attempt to close. Usual it coincides with me setting something heavier inside like groceries or what not. If I figure it out will post up.

Thanks

Are you bumping the lid close plunger? On Gen1 it's on the trunk lid, little boot thing. If that compresses at all then pops back out while the car is locked then it assumes the trunk got pried open.
I think someone said the rubber boot got torn up on theirs, making it really sensitive. I think the plunger partially relied on the rubber boot to extend and stay extended while the lid was open.

No, I just set things in the middle of trunk and off it goes. I will look at that though since I am gen 1

Are you unlocking it before you open the trunk? Could you just be bumping the car or leaning in hard enough to set the alarm off? I've gotten into the habit of unlocking the car before popping the trunk. I've set it off by not closing the trunk hard enough and it popping open, and on my Taurus I've closed the trunk too hard and set it off. I've also set off my Taurus a few times by leaning against the fender, then getting off.
