That is rediculous. I say shop around some more or sell it individualy. I would think you should get way more for a Navigator even with the high gas prices.

Without knowing what options you have, what color you have, or anything else, it's hard to say, but a red '02 Navigator 4x2 with no options and 39,000 miles on the clock should have a trade-in value of $18.5K in the Houston area, per Edmund's. BTW, the Edmund's Regional Adjustment for Houston is positive ($112). Private party retail is just over $20K.

The SUV market has been soft over the last several months, but one of the reports I read recently indicated that SUV sales have gone back up thanks to the recent promotions by Ford and GM. That dealer is definitely trying to low-ball you big time. You'll probably be better off selling the Navigator outright, then simply buying an LS off of a dealer's lot...

i know from some expierence here in the atlanta area carmax is good about pricing for your vehicle. we had a car we wanted to sell and took it to them they were gonna give us like 500$ less than what we were tryin to sell it out right for.

Employee Pricing. It's killing the trade values. I looked into trading my wife's 03 Aviator on a new one the other day. What they offered was ridiculous to me. But when you figure someone could buy a brand new one with all the incentives for as cheap as they can, why would they ever look at an 03 with 25,000 miles on it unless it was thousands less? They aren't trying to screw you...they are simply trying to put themselves in a position to sell it.

trade loss

I can telll you what its about all too well. I really have never been into trading /buying, but my dad passed in Nov. and left me his 02 2500 Chevy extended pickup. Needless tyo say it had a 400 cu. motor in it so I quickly traded to a little smaller engine because I am merely a student, not too wealthy. Well after a few months and extremely rediculous gas price hikes I thought "well damn, A car is about as small as it gets". I messed up and drove this damn Lincoln which was only 13.4k at the dealer. So in the end, I traded down twice in 6 months and took a value loss of about 9k but I am really loving the car overall. I gave up alot of versatility and a car with no problems for a pain in the ass pimp ride that is full of problems, however, There is truly no car I have personally driven that handles like the ole LS. Starting to like it more and more as I fix the little bugs in the system. ESPECIALLY since I covered the pillars and got the brows from LSKoncepts... I highly recommend these to anyone, not expensive but definitely helps out the car ... :L

Believe me no ones car is getting a good trade in due to the big 3's deals. Its going to be quite awhile before I see them even coming back due to the fact dealers will have a huge amount of used cars on there lot also. Unless you have a muscle and or classic car, those seem to be about the only things making a decent return.

I believe that gas prices will have an effect, but not as much as we may think, until it gets to a certain point. Case in point. I was reading a Canadian national newspaper a few weeks ago and sales of Navigators were up 5% for the month of June '05 vs '04. The article mentioned that there is more disposable income so people want "that" vehicle, damn the fuel. Keep in mind, by that time gas was already a $1.00 per litre or about $3.20 US a gallon and that was for premium.
